(l-r) Adrian Evans from Cwmeinion Farm with Andrew Mort from HSBC
Adrian and Wendy Evans used a five-figure finance package provided by HSBC to establish their farming venture and buy 1,000 livestock.
The couple from Llanwrda in West Wales have used part of the loan to purchase almost 1,000 sheep from the owner of Cwmeinion Farm after he made the decision to go into early retirement.
The duo will now take on the day-to-day running of the farm which they have worked at for the last six years.
Adrian and Wendy have taken ownership of 800 breeding ewes and 200 ewe lambs after the owner of the 1,300-acre farm, Dai Davies, took the decision to go into semi-retirement.
Adrian said: “Wendy and I are young farmers but HSBC took the time to understand our experience and revenue potential and was able to put a tailored finance package in place that supported our ambitious plans.
“Our agriculture manager, Andrew Mort, has been particularly helpful and has shown genuine interest in the business from day one, so we are delighted to have him and his team on board.”
Euryn Jones, HSBC’s Regional Agriculture Director, added: “Adrian and Wendy are incredibly committed to Cwmeinion Farm so it was an easy decision for them to take ownership of Mr Davies’s livestock as he goes into semi-retirement.
“Mr Davies is an existing HSBC customer so was able to act as a guarantor for the Evans family as they take their first official steps to a career in farming.”
The couple will sell a proportion of their ewe lambs to local farmers for breeding, whilst other lambs will go to abattoirs, live markets or sold to other farms to be finished.
