Research by O2 and the Centre for Economic and Business Research showed that the so-called sharing and rental economy was the hottest business sector, driven by start-ups similar to popular US-based car-sharing and property-rental firms.
Call centres, book publishing and beer production were also in the top-10 growth industries.
In contrast, video production, postal services and parts of manufacturing were among those in decline, said the report.
Ben Dowd, director of O2 Business, said: "It's encouraging to see the variety of growth industries in the UK, suggesting renewed economic confidence and a vibrant start-up scene.
"However, as the report shows, increased innovation and competition can result in some sectors struggling to cope with the pace of change."
