Groundwork North East & Cumbria has appointed Karen Daglish to manage its £3.4m Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) funded Land of Oak and Iron scheme.

In her new position as Land of Oak and Iron Project Manager, Karen will oversee the four year-long project, which focuses on the Derwent Valley and the surrounding area.

The Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) has named its former head of fundraising, Chris Gray, as it’s newly created CEO.

Chris, who arrived from the North East operations of the Prince’s Trust almost three years ago has built a four-strong fundraising and administrative team in that time, and is now on the search for a senior fundraiser

North East PR and communications consultancy, Glue PR, has added a new face to its team.

The consultancy, which specialises in communications across social and traditional media channels, has added University of Sunderland public relations graduate, Charlotte Hagel to the team.

Leading national engineering specialist SES Engineering Services (SES) has announced the senior promotion of Michael Dickinson to operations manager.

Having delivered a number of exemplar projects for the North East office he is now responsible for delivering all projects in the region reporting to Steve Joyce, regional director, North East and Yorkshire.

Fellow Chartered Accountant, Mark McCafferty, has joined Greg Whitehead and the team at Northpoint, a North East professional advisory firm providing turnaround, restructuring, insolvency and forensic accounting services.

The Progeny Group has welcomed Jon Moody, former Business Development Manager at Redmayne Bentley, to the firm as a Manager.

Jon brings his 34 years' experience of the financial services industry, having previously worked at Merrill Lynch International Private Client Group and Lloyds Bank, to the firm and joins five former colleagues who left Redmayne-Bentley this year to join Progeny.

Two well-known regional dealmakers have been rewarded for their contributions to the success of hundreds of North East businesses with promotions at regional fund management firm NEL Fund Managers.

David Thomas has become an investment manager with the Newcastle-based firm, while Jonathan Luke has been promoted to portfolio manager.

Following sequential quarters of significant growth in revenue arising from new client wins, revolution has welcomed Sam Leaver, Tony Parker and Frankie Boyle, to its team.

Sam Leaver and Tony Parker join the Digital Team as Head of Development and Web Developer respectively, while Frankie Boyle joins the Communications and Content team in the role of Junior Account Executive

One of the North East’s most experienced commercial interior designers has joined a leading hospitality and leisure group within the region.

Trish Devlin, whose career spans more than 30 years, has been appointed in-house interior design manager by Newcastle-based Malhotra Group plc, having worked for the organisation on a freelance basis for the past nine years.

A big name in global brand licensing has relocated from his base in the US to join a Brand Creative agency in the UK.  Paul Richards, former Creative Director for Global Brands at Mattel, has made the move back to the UK to join Blue Kangaroo as the team’s Director of Creative Strategy.

Helen Brain joins Newcastle-based firm, Square One Law as a new commercial partner. The appointment sees her return from the United Arab Emirates, where she has been working for the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department with the Government Contracts and Agreements Directorate.

Bespoke software development consultancy Scott Logic has appointed a new General Manager to the business.

Nigel Wilson joins the firm in the newly created role to lead day to day operations across all four of its city centre locations, and drive further expansion of the business, which has seen its headcount grow to almost 200 in its 10-year history.

Darren Smith has also joined the firm, which specialises in solutions for the financial sector, after nearly six years working in web development for digital agencies in the North East region.

Miller Homes North East has added to its team of sales advisers with two new appointments.

Moving into her new role with Miller Homes and based at Heritage Green is sales adviser Lisa Merritt from County Durham. 

Another new addition to Miller Homes’ team of North East sales advisers is former teacher Alexis Grant who is based at Wheatfields in Seaton Deleval.

Monument Mall bar and restaurant, The Botanist, has made two appointments within its team as it embarks on its second summer in Newcastle city centre.

Business development manager Paul Burns and unit PA Alice Wheatley have received promotions to senior business development manager and assistant business development manager respectively.

Seaham Harbour Marina has expanded its team to support the development of the marina’s facilities over the summer months.

With the construction of a purpose-built activity centre due to start imminently, Colin Burn has been appointed in the new role of Watersports Development Officer.

Lisa Fletcher, 26, has been promoted to assistant manager of Clive Owen LLP. She started at the company immediately after receiving her A-level results in July 2008. 

Over the past eight years, she has proven her ability, working with clients in sectors as diverse as food production and medieval glass, and has now been promoted to assistant manager of the York office.

Bespoke software development consultancy Scott Logic has welcomed its 2016 summer interns to its Newcastle office.

Craig Ayre, 22, Jade Elliott, 20, and Martin Moxon, 21, are among seven undergraduate students to benefit from one of its paid internships, after recruiters sifted through almost 80 applications. The trio will be based in the city centre office at St James’ Gate for the duration of the summer.

Experienced employment law specialist Anu Kaura has joined growing Newcastle-based Collingwood Legal as a senior solicitor.

The appointment bolsters the firm’s employment expertise at a time when recognition of Collingwood Legal’s position as a leading employment specialist working with public and private sector clients is growing across the North East and beyond.

Jo Mayes has joined Business Stream as Customer Operations Director, further strengthening its senior team as the company gears up for the opening of the English water market in 2017.

Most recently Head of Customer Experience at Standard Life, Jo has an extensive background in customer service, gained in the utilities market with Scottish Power and in the financial sector where she has held a number of senior roles.

Housebuilder AS Homes (Scotland) Ltd has announced the appointment of Roddy MacDonald as its new Affordable Housing Director.

Mr MacDonald joins the company from national housing and care provider Sanctuary Group, where he spent six years at Sanctuary Scotland, latterly as Development Director.

Chris Hunter, Matt Smith and Michael Magnay are among Deloitte UK’s 80 new partners, in the firm’s largest-ever round of promotions – topping 2015’s 75. Deloitte now has 35 partners and 45 directors in Scotland.

Johnston Carmichael, Scotland’s largest independent firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers, has announced six promotions within its leadership team, as part of the firm’s growth strategy across Scotland.

David Ward and Toby Rintoul of the Edinburgh office, Jennifer Cormack of Huntly, Louise Peters of Forfar and Richard Britten of Aberdeen have all been promoted to the position of partner, effective from June 1. Scott Dunbar from the firm’s Elgin office has been promoted to director.

Karen Davidson has joined EY as a Director in the firm’s PAS team. She will be leading the firm’s share scheme and reward practice in Scotland and comes with 19 years’ experience.  EY Scotland has also welcomed the transfer of two Executive Directors from the UK practice. Recruiment firm Edgar Stewart is set to double its Edinburgh headcount following a period of substantial growth.

Bristow Helicopters Limited has announced the appointment of Russell Torbet CBE to director UK SAR effective August 1 2016, responsible for overseeing the operation of the civilian search and rescue (SAR) service on behalf of HM Coastguard. Torbet replaces Samantha Willenbacher who has been promoted to Bristow Group’s regional director for the Americas Region.

Dean Watson has been appointed as partner in charge of the Preston office of the UK’s leading independent business recovery and insolvency practitioner Begbies Traynor.
