Tumbles and Grumbles wins the If We Can You Can Challenge

Some of the North East’s most promising entrepreneurs have gathered to celebrate the best of the region’s 0-3 year old businesses.

The If We Can You Can Challenge, now in its second year, was set up by the team at First Face to Face to help new businesses connect with each other, and to inspire people who are just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey.

The final of the If We Can You Can Challenge, which took place at the Baltic on Gateshead’s Quayside, saw the shortlisted applicants pitch their businesses for one minute each to every table in the room, before attendees voted for their favourite business based on the categories of drive, vision, creativity, and commitment to customers.

Tumbles and Grumbles, a paediatric first aid company, was named the winner of this year’s challenge.

Founded May 2015 by Caroline Davis, Tumbles and Grumbles helpsparents and guardians learn how to perform first aid on small children. The business also teaches pre-school and primary age children first aid and lifesaving skills through fun, play, music and team work.

Business owner Caroline Davis said: "I really enjoyed being part of the If We Can You Can Challenge because, as the name suggests, it's pioneering and proves that anyone can make a success out of their dream with hard work.

"I am so thrilled to win the Challenge but it was really unexpected. I have an unwavering passion in my vision and belief that my business will continue to grow, but when other people see that too it is really special.

"Going forward I am going to franchise Tumbles and Grumbles nationally to reach and empower as many adults and children as possible with life-saving skills, and create a nation of people who are willing and able to help!"

As well as the applicants, the event was attended by members of the North East’s business community, including delegates from the region’s universities, Entrepreneurial Spark, Digital City and Entrepreneurs Forum.

Gillian Marshall, chief executive of the Entrepreneurs forum said: "The people who enter If We Can You Can are the job and wealth creators of the future, making it the perfect platform for spotting new talent, supporting emerging entrepreneurs and setting them on the road to build a vibrant North East buzzing with exciting new enterprises and fresh thinking entrepreneurs who believe: If They Can, I Can!"
