The Car Buying Group – Fastest growing tech company in the north
The Car Buying Group, based in Wakefield, has had another strong year with impressive levels of growth as well as external recognition of the business’ momentum.
In April of this year, The Car Buying Group was ranked the fastest growing technology company in the north in the Northern Tech 100 league table, despite the company being one of the youngest in the standings.
The business has trebled in size this year and in doing so has created ten extra jobs and seen three internal promotions to senior positions.
Looking forward to 2018, founder Tom Marley, who was shortlisted for BQ’s Emerging Entrepreneur for Yorkshire award earlier this year, believes that The Car Buying Group is set to continue its impressive growth and build on a fantastic 2017 to become the second largest car buying group in the UK in 2018.
Cooper King Distillery – Gin and whiskey production begins
England’s first self-built whisky and gin distillery, Cooper King Distillery, will commence production of its juniper-led gin and open its doors to members of the public early in the new year. The whisky distillation will follow in Spring 2018, with a predicted release date of 2023.
Founded in 2014 by Dr Abbie Neilson, a former scientist, and Chris Jaume, a chartered architect, Cooper King Distillery is England’s smallest whisky and gin distillery.
With a desire to leave the rat race, co-founders Chris and Abbie travelled across the globe, in search of sun, sand and adventure.
Whilst visiting Australia the pair became fascinated by Tasmania’s eight operational whisky distilleries and the hand-crafted premium whisky industry, which was just starting to take off in this part of the world.
With a mission to bring their discoveries back to Britain, Chris and Abbie set up a truly independent craft whisky distillery back home in Sutton-on-forest in North Yorkshire.
With over 75% of the build finished, a team comprising of family, friends and Founders’ Club members are working together to ensure the build is completed within the next month and gin distillation can begin.
