Wetherby-based Earthmill has joined forces with three other authorised service providers for wind turbine manufacturer Endurance, which went into administration in December following the collapse of its Canadian parent company.
The four businesses have joined forces to ensure turbine owners, the majority of whom are farmers, will not be left without critical spare parts and components that were previously the responsibility of the manufacturer.
The four independent businesses, which between them manage over 76% of the national fleet of 900 Endurance farm-scale turbines: Aeolus, based in Bristol; Earthmill in Wetherby; Natural Generation in St Ives and Silverford in Northern Ireland, have together invested in £600,000 of spare parts for Endurance turbines, all of which have been acquired from the company’s administrators.
The group of four businesses had already been working together since November, when the Endurance business in Canada was placed in administration, to provide service and maintenance for turbine owners. The new deal ensures full continuity of service for the 900 UK farmers who have installed Endurance turbines on their land in recent years.
Steve Milner, managing director of Earthmill, said: “While the collapse of Endurance, in Canada and then here in the UK, has been a huge shock to everyone involved, by working together and taking swift collaborative action, the four service providers have been able to achieve the best possible outcome for turbine owners.
“Not only have we successfully acquired the entire stock of Endurance spares and components from the administrators, Grant Thornton, but we have also managed to re-establish the production of those components and spares by working with the original manufacturers that produce them.
"This will ensure that both now and in the future farmers will be able to keep their turbines operable and generating renewable power.”
The Endurance turbine parts and components are being stored in a centrally located parts depot that is easily accessible to each of the four service providers.
Victoria Griffiths of Aeolus added: “Turbine owners should contact their regular service provider as usual with any maintenance problems or queries.
"Despite the sad demise of Endurance, the lights will stay on and it should be very much ‘business as usual’ for farmers with turbines.”
