Lareine Engineering, the West Lothian based rooflighting and ventilation specialist founded in 1973, which secured a grant of £85k from Business Gateway West Lothian to create six new jobs has become the first in Scotland to gain a new smoke control certification.
The company, which now has 75 staff, gained approval under the new SDI 19 certification scheme, which has been developed by the Smoke Control Association, (SCA), in partnership with International Fire Consultants, (IFC).
To achieve certification, businesses need to demonstrate experience in fire strategy verification together with the design, installation and commissioning of smoke control systems in accordance with the relevant standards. The scheme also recognises the ability to provide appropriate subsequent levels of service and maintenance.
The Livingston-based company, which has received additional support from Business Gateway West Lothian in areas including help with expanding to larger premises, purchasing manufacturing equipment and staff development, is the only UK business which currently offers all aspects of daylighting and ventilation for commercial, industrial and large-scale residential properties.
The company specialises in the design, manufacturing and installation of rooflighting and natural and smoke ventilation solutions and supplies a range of products through distribution partnerships with various European businesses, supported by full on-site installation and maintenance services.
Tom Bates, director of Lareine Engineering, said: “Ongoing support from West Lothian Council and Business Gateway has made an important contribution to our recent growth both in our team and sales throughout the UK, including a number of high-profile residential projects in London and the home counties, driven to a great extent by our close relationships with many leading contractors.
“We’re delighted to gain this certification and to be leading the way in smoke control compliance in Scotland and we are very proud of the active role we play in West Lothian’s business community."
Executive Councillor for Development and Transport, Cathy Muldoon, said, “I would like to extend congratulations to all at Lareine, who we are delighted to be able to support, on their latest quality certification. The company is a valued local employer, renowned for innovation and investing in its workforce and I'm sure this certification will help the company to achieve further success.”
