Despite a year of political upheaval and financial uncertainty, Fortnum's has proved that its timeless quality is still in demand across the globe with sales growing 12% and profits by an impressive 27%.
In the course of the financial year, ending 10 July, Fortnum's has served more than 2 million customers and has delivered its products to 128 countries worldwide.
This has been helped by the company’s booming online operations which has doubled in size over the past three years.
There have also been particular highlights within the Fortnum's portfolio with sales of the brand's iconic hampers up 17%, while there has been a 24% increase in confectionery sales.
The investment of a new beauty floor at the company's flagship store in Piccadilly has also been rewarded with a 24% rise in the sales of beauty products.
"We are now anticipating a busy and successful Christmas period," said Ewan Venters, CEO of Fortnum & Mason.
"As always, we expect this to be driven by sales of our world-famous hampers and of our Christmas food range."
Fortnum's sources some of the best products from around the world, but is still committed to supporting British suppliers.
The company deals with more 1,000 different UK brands and this year has increased its trade with domestic companies by 9%, helping to safeguard jobs in many artisanal suppliers in all corners of the nation.
Kate Hobhouse, chairman of Fortnum & Mason, added: "Knowing that our recent success impacts so positively on so many UK producers is one of the great pleasures of chairing the business.
“Our UK suppliers have always been the backbone of our ranges, and we continually nurture new talent wherever it is found."
Fortnum's has also invested significantly in its own staff, and more than 100 new positions have been created throughout the company.
Hobhouse continued: "I am obviously delighted with our financial performance, and I am pleased that the investments we have made in the brand over the past year have been translated into sales.
“We will continue to be restless in our quest to provide our customers, wherever they may be, or whatever platform they choose to use, with the highest quality products and the best possible experience.
“I anticipate our Christmas period will be the best on record, and I look forward to even more improvement on our financial position next year."
