Just Eat snaps up Hungry House in £200m deal

Just Eat has gobbled up rival Hungry House in a £200m deal as it looks to continue expanding across the UK.

Just Eat is an online food order and delivery service. It acts as an intermediary between independent take-out food outlets and customers.

Already the UK's leader in food delivery, with over 20,000 restaurant menus, the acquisition of hungryhouse will now see Just Eat race ahead of its competitors.

The acquisition will create an enlarged customer base, while increasing the breadth of choice on offer to UK consumers through Just Eat's platform.

Just Eat CEO David Buttress said: "The UK has long been an engine of growth for Just Eat.

"While we have significantly expanded internationally in recent years, we have remained focused on building a high growth, sustainably profitable business domestically.

"Through this transaction, we would extend our market presence in the UK and sustain high levels of growth given the considerable opportunity in this market."
