Coo, a parent productivity app, enables users to create multiple private messaging groups based on their child’s school class or activities.
Group-members can then share instant updates and tips on everything from sport’s day to science week – and uniquely includes an integrated shared calendar to help parents plan and organise family life.
Founded by female UK entrepreneur and Harvard MBA, Shilpa Bhandarkar, who built the app this July, and tested it with friends and local schools, Coo has already built up a cult-following among more than 1500 parents in London, including celebrity and mum of five, Jools Oliver.
With seed investment from Chris Havemann, founder and ex-CEO of Research Now; Ralph Kunz, founder at Patagonia Capital and Graeme Hossie, founder at Venture Development Partners, Coo is now launching nationwide and promises not only to help parents save more than 48 hours a year in family admin, but also to help parents support and get to know one other beyond the school gate.
Coo’s CEO and co-founder, Shilpa Bhandarkar, said: “I built Coo to make managing family life easier. I love productivity apps like Trello and found there were tonnes to help entrepreneurs and business teams manage their schedules, yet nothing to help busy, working parents.
“I was constantly on my blackberry adding in important school dates and extra curricular activities, while trying to maintain a busy job at a magic circle law firm. I thought that I couldn’t be the only one struggling with this, so I investigated a number of London schools and found that on average parents have more than 500 things to remember every year, whether it’s bringing in £1 for a cupcake, music lessons or parents’ evenings.
“With Coo, we’ve calculated we save parents an average of 48 hours a year of family admin. That’s time you could spend on your business, having fun with your kids, or, if you’re like me, getting some extra sleep! It’s been a great way to get to know other parents at the school too.”
