Behzad Parniani is the managing director of Moments in 3D, the latest company to feature in the Venturefest North East Innovation Showcase. Whilst we're all getting used to the idea of 3D printers, Moments in 3D is taking the idea quite literally to the next level, by also making 3D copies...

Moments in 3D provides 3D scanning and printing services.

Describe the innovation that you’ve entered the showcase with
Moments in 3D have developed a state-of-the-art 3D scanning booth, which allows you to scan a person or an object in a split second in full 360 radius, which then is printed out using 3D printers.

How would you describe that innovation to your grandma?
We take a picture and turn it into a life-like sculpture.

How do you encourage innovation in the workplace?
By analysing all possible solutions and trying to run brainstorming sessions with team members, trying to think out of the box and seeking alternatives to existing methods. We always look into the latest technology and solutions and how we can implement those to raise efficiency and productivity, even with the slightest improvement, so this could enhance our performance in innovation.

What are the biggest challenges you face when trying to innovate in your business?
The most challenging part of innovation is getting the balance right between the final cost of the innovation and the effect it could have to its end users’ purchasing power or feasibility of profitability.

And how is business going for you at the minute?
Our business is on course for rapid expansion. Currently, we’ve managed to secure a contract for the retail part of the business with a top department store to commence trading soon, and we are hopeful to expand into other industries soon.

Where do you see your company in five years time?
With an already established initial 3-year plan in place, in five years time we see our company expanding its presence and operating nationwide through multiple outlets of the business (i.e. franchising, 3D printing fulfilment house).

What advice would you give to aspiring innovators?
Stay true to yourself, never give up on your dreams and enjoy what you do!
