Home decor start-up hits £1m milestone

Leeds-based Dowsing & Reynolds, a start-up specialising in selling home decor, is celebrating after hitting the £1m annual turnover milestone.

The company which was launched by founder James Dowsing-Reynolds started on eBay in 2014 and now exports to 33 countries and receives over 100,000 page views every month.

This solid growth led to the company taking on six new members of staff last year and is now set to move into larger premises to accommodate its future growth.

Speaking on the success, James Dowsing-Reynolds, said: “We’ve also identified new customer segments, namely architects and interior designers, as target areas for 2016 and we’re continually diversifying our product range.”

“The Christmas trading period is hugely busy and absolutely crucial to the business - it’s all hands on deck now more than ever.”

As reported by BQ earlier today, the latest research by eBay shows thousands of jobs could be created at small online businesses this year amid optimism of growth in the sector.

Speaking on the success of Dowsing & Reynolds, Kit Glover, director of professional selling at eBay UK, said: "Dowsing & Reynolds is a great example of this trend.

"Having started on eBay in 2014, the business has really taken off and now exports to 33 countries from its base in Leeds.

"With plans in the pipeline to take on more staff and move into a bigger HQ this year, Dowsing & Reynolds is also great news for local jobs and growth.”
