Tipple Box cheers John Lewis success

Tipple Box founder Sonny Charles is celebrating after a major deal with John Lewis saw the start-up turn over £45,000 in December alone.

Capitalising on the craft spirit revolution, Tipple Box offers a monthly subscription of cocktail ingredients, similar to the business model of healthy eating chain Graze.

They provide customers with two cocktail recipes containing four 5cl bottles of spirits alongside premium and exclusive ingredients – enough to make 6-8 cocktails at home.

After landing a major deal with John Lewis last year, the company saw sales rise from £800 in December the previous year to £45,000 during the same period in 2015.

Speaking about the success, Sonny told BQ: “2015 was our first full year of trading. It was an absolute rollercoaster that I've learned so much from.

“If you'd have told me we'd be stocked by John Lewis and turned over more than £100,000 by the end of the year, I'm not sure I would have believed you.

“It's fantastic to have that traction behind you going into 2016. There are so many exciting opportunities for the year ahead, I can't wait to share them with our customers!”

Sonny was accepted onto the Entrepreneurial Spark programme in Edinburgh and spent his first year in business there.

Speaking about the support he received, he told us: “Entrepreneurial Spark have genuinely changed the course of my life. That's not me trying to be courteous, that's a cold hard fact.

“Prior to joining E-spark I worked part time in a less than stimulating job and talked a lot about starting a business without ever following it through.

“The difference being surrounded by like-minded individuals in a collaborative, but challenging environment makes is unbelievable.

“I cannot commend E-spark highly enough for the changes they are making to the world of Entrepreneurship.”
