Businesses encouraged to tap into support

Businesses across Scotland are being encouraged to tap in to a network of free specialist business support to help them succeed and grow.

Business Gateway, delivered by Scotland’s local authorities, has launched a new marketing campaign this week to highlight the services on offer to Scottish businesses.

“Every year we help thousands of businesses to start up and grow,” said Hugh Lightbody, chief officer at the Business Gateway National Unit.

“We understand that each business requires a different approach and that is why Business Gateway offers a suite of support services that can be personalised to meet specific needs; from one to one adviser support and specialist workshops, to a comprehensive online resource and market intelligence through our Information Service.

“Our Scotland wide network of professional advisers, many of whom have run their own business or held senior positions within industry, have the skills, practical experience, and network of valuable contacts to help business owners achieve their growth objectives.”

The campaign features a number of companies that have been supported by Business Gateway to achieve their growth ambitions.

Simone Hart Sibbald’s business, Perfect Service Solutions, specialises in ductwork cleaning, deep cleaning and the provision of ventilation solutions to the food and facilities management industry.

Speaking about the support, Simone said: “If it wasn’t for Business Gateway’s support, contacts, networking and signposting to funding I wouldn’t have been able to fulfil my vision so confidently. With their help we’ve been able to increase our turnover by 80% to £650,000 in the past 12 months.”

Fife-based business, Sephra Europe, which supplies popcorn machines and waffle makers to food outlets across the globe, looked to Business Gateway for help to establish overseas connections and plan for growth.

Managing director, David Archer, said: “Business Gateway helped me refine my growth strategy; we are now in the process of installing our products in 250 UK supermarkets, 120 UK pizza restaurants and over 60 eateries in the Middle East.”

Business Gateway’s multimedia marketing campaign will run across press, TV, radio and digital platforms during April and May.
