Karhoo set for national roll-out

A London start-up helping the capital's cab companies compete against challengers such as Uber is set for national expansion, just six weeks since its inception.

The Karhoo app is proving to be a "lifesaver" for London cab companies, helping to level the playing field by bringing dozens of operators online and into the e-hail revolution.

Cab companies such as Mornington, Cascade and Swiss Cottage have experienced a 20-30% increase in business since joining Karhoo, the new cab comparison and booking app.

In just six weeks the app has proven its value to operators, with a number of London's established fleets reporting that rides booked through the app account for up to 20% of their overall business.

As a result, many operators are now rehiring drivers lost to other single network operators, as Karhoo helps fleets fill more dead miles than ever before.

Karhoo, which gives users access to more licensed black cabs, minicabs and executive cars than any other app in the UK, has a UK network of more than 80,000 cabs, including 30,000 in London.

Today (20 June), Karhoo announced plans for its much-anticipated national roll-out, with 14 cities including Nottingham, Birmingham and Manchester due to come online in the coming weeks.

Daniel Ishag, founder and CEO of Karhoo, said: “Over the last 15 years, millions have been spent by industries educating consumers about comparison services.

“Hotels, airlines and insurance companies all use comparison sites, but ground transportation was lagging behind, until now.

“By working with operators that only used licensed, professional drivers, Londoners are getting the service they deserve.

“Karhoo gives passengers more choice and transparency when booking a cab and, with our ever-growing network of local operators, Karhoo will make it easier to book a ride outside central London than ever before.”

The vendor-neutral platform, developed by Karhoo’s London-based tech team, uses technology to integrate dispatch systems, with varying degrees of functionality and sophistication, from hundreds of operators around the world into one platform.

By integrating entire dispatch systems at the operator level, rather than the driver-by-driver model used by other app-based services, Karhoo solves a very complex problem that enables entire fleets to come online in an instant.

Karhoo is available to download in London for iOS and Android via the App Store and Google Play.
