The Wensleydale Creamery launches Black Sheep Ale cheese

Two iconic Yorkshire producers, Black Sheep Brewery and The Wensleydale Creamery, have partnered to produce a Mature Cheddar with Black Sheep Riggwelter Ale, launching in Waitrose stores this week.

The Wensleydale Creamery has carefully combined the roasted malt flavour of Riggwelter, Black Sheep’s strong Yorkshire Ale, with a rich, creamy mature cheddar, to give cheese lovers a true taste of Yorkshire.

The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, based at Hawes in Wensleydale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is home of the famous Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese.  It is renowned for its traditional cheese-making skills and its development of innovative new recipes.

Well-known for its commitment to supporting and investing in the local Yorkshire Dales economy, this partnership with Black Sheep Brewery is the latest in a number of collaborations between the The Wensleydale Creamery and other iconic Yorkshire brands, including Brymor Ice Cream, Yorkshire Provender and Rosebud Preserves.

David Hartley, managing director of The Wensleydale Creamery, explains; “Black Sheep Brewery shares our proud Yorkshire heritage and passion for tradition and craftsmanship. It’s a privilege to partner with another award-winning Yorkshire producer to give cheese and ale lovers the authentic taste of the Yorkshire Dales we love so much.”

Black Sheep Brewery has twenty years of brewing heritage. Founded by Paul Theakston, the fifth generation of T&R Theakston, Black Sheep Brewery was built on traditional values centred on brewing high quality beer with real flavour.

Jo Theakston, sales and marketing director of Black Sheep Brewery, said: “We’re delighted to be part of a collaboration that brings together two iconic Yorkshire businesses, which are internationally-renowned for their quality produce. Our Riggwelter Ale perfectly complements the smooth taste of the mature cheddar.

“It truly is a match made in heaven, or in fact Yorkshire, which is God’s own county!”

The Wensleydale Creamery’s Mature Cheddar with Black Sheep Riggwelter Ale is available in over 190 Waitrose supermarket stores in 200g packs with a RRP £2.75 and a 2 for £4 offer.
