Venturefest North East works with innovation experts at the North East BIC to find 15 businesses in the region who dare to do things differently.
The selected businesses will then be given the opportunity to showcase their ideas to an audience of 700 businesspeople and investors during Venturefest North East.
Innovation Showcase is open to all kinds of business, regardless of size or stage of, who are working on something innovative and want to share it with the showcase.
Last year saw a range of innovative businesses, from a seaweed farm to fingerprint biometric readers, and from wheelchair adaptations to 3D scanning booths.
Estelle Blanks, Deputy Director at Innovation SuperNetwork which delivers VentureFest North East, said: "We hear all too often complaints that the innovative talent of this region remains behind closed doors.
"Innovation Showcase is designed to address this – shining a light on the latest exciting developments that are taking place every day on industrial estates, in labs and in offices every day across the region.
"I'd urge anyone who is working on something innovative to put themselves forward for the chance to be involved in this valuable opportunity to promote themselves and showcase what this region is capable of."
Paul Miller, co-founder and CEO of VEO Ltd, who entered Innovation Showcase last year, said: "We've attended Venturefest two years running and found it provided a great opportunity to start discussions with investors and established businesses from the North East. Most importantly, we were delighted to secure a significant amount of funding through the 'Meet the Investor' session at the event, which enabled us to launch our product successfully.
"The event also helped us to open conversations with fellow entrepreneurs on ideas and the direction of where to take our product. We now have a number of exciting opportunities in the pipeline involving some large corporates - watch this space!"
Another of last year’s entrants, Dr Craig Rose, founder and managing director of Seaweed & Co. Ltd said: "VentureFest highlighted for us the innovation that is going on in the region, and much of it that we were not aware of.
"Too often we assume we need to travel outside the region to collaborate and innovate, but there is so much going on here, and Venturefest was a good platform to highlight that. Whether it be direct collaboration, or just meeting other companies and people going on similar journeys, it is always very helpful to be inspired and motivated by what’s going on in a thriving region."
Ashley Westgate, marketing manager at ievo Ltd, said: "The Venturefest event was a fantastic platform for us to get our brand out into the region amongst other leading North East businesses. It gave us the opportunity to get together with a range of companies to discuss best practise and hear success stories on a local and national scale."
