The Amazon Lockers, installed at stations including Monument, Four Lane Ends, Gateshead, Heworth and ParkLane, will aim to take the drudgery out of Christmas shopping and allow customers to pick up their online purchases whilst on their daily commute.
Between them, the five metro stations will see 19 million Metro passengers pass through them each year.
Amazon Lockers are self-service kiosks where customers can collect or return their parcels at a time and locations that’s convenient for them.
There are over 1,000 Amazon Lockers in the UK with locations including shopping centres, petrol stations, convenience stores and transport hubs.
Paul Walker, customer service director at DB Regio Tyne and Wear, which operates the Metro on behalf of Nexus, said: “We hope these lockers will make life easier and more convenient for our customers, particularly ordering items during the busy festive season.
“The locations we’ve chosen fit with the daily routine of many of our commuters, enabling them to pick up their parcels on their way home.”
