Simply Do Ideas have developed a platform that allows early stage innovators to scope out new ideas in a safe environment. We caught up with them ahead of Venturefest South this week to find out more...
Describe your business in no more than 100 words
I believe in the power of ideas to change the world. However, our research showed that almost 80% of people lacked the confidence or capabilities to make their ideas happen. I found it incredibly frustrating seeing great ideas failing to materialise in my previous entrepreneurship and innovation roles in government, education and industry. So this is why Simply Do Ideas was created. Simply Do Ideas is a cloud-based idea management platform empowering individuals and organisations to capture, develop and share early-stage ideas in a fun, safe and simple way.
What prompted you to enter the Innovation Zone? Describe the innovation that you’ve entered with.
We had a conversation with Richard (May) from Oxford Innovation after meeting him at Venturefest Wales and, after seeing our product, he suggested we got involved. Our innovation is a cloud-based software solution to support early-stage innovative ideas. For example, organisations can set up their very own virtual ideas incubator while being connected to the wider entrepreneurial eco-system.
How would you describe that to a novice?
In a nutshell, we use clever technology to make ideas happen quicker and simpler than traditional systems and processes.
What are the biggest challenges you face?
The biggest challenges we face are much like many other businesses. You have to be constantly innovating your products and services and responding to changing customer needs. But this is exactly what makes running a technology business so amazing. You can build a global business from anywhere in the world that has internet access. This certainly keeps you on your toes!
What are your biggest professional achievements to date?
We raised £100k seed investment last year which allowed us to recruit an expert team, launch our first commercial product and generate significant commercial traction with organisations across the UK. We currently work with over 70 organisations spanning education, charities, government and large corporates. These include the likes of Welsh Government, NatWest and the Premier League.
How do you feel about showcasing to potentially hundreds of people at Venturefest South?
Very excited. We love events such as Venturefest South as you feel at the heart of innovation. It’s also great to meet experts from across a range of sectors who can provide their input into our future growth plans. Often our best suggestions for features come from speaking with clever people at events, conferences and networks.
What are you hoping to get out of attending Venturefest South?
We are just getting the wheels turning on a further funding round to allow us to rapidly grow the business. So Venturefest South seemed a timely opportunity to hear from some inspirational speakers, learn from some expert sessions and chat with potential investors.
Where do you see your company in five years time?
We’ll be the de facto choice for idea capture and development across entrepreneurial learning, startup support and industry innovation.
What advice would you give to aspiring innovators?
I am obviously biased, but if you have an early stage innovation and would like to scope it out in a safe environment then you should try Simply Do Ideas! On a second plug, you should get to events like Venturefest South. If you never try you’ll never know so get yourself out there as ideas need action to make them happen.
Simply Do Ideas will be part of the Innovation Zone at the inaugural Venturefest South event taking place at Winchester Guildhall on 9th March – for more information and to book your tickets, visit https://venturefestsouth.co.uk/
