Three Northumberland mothers are helping women across the world by working and trading with them.

Claire McAlpine, Anna Kirkup and Eliza Browne-Swinburne sell unique textiles, ceramics and homeware from three continents on their website ibbi.

The company aims to support the artisan crafts of women in impoverished countries, and so far has sourced items from India, South Africa, Kenya, Peru and Guatemala.

“We believe the best form of aid is trade,” said Claire.

“Some of these items, although exquisite, have been created in areas of great poverty and women are very much at the heart of these communities.”

The ibbi range has also seen a recent expansion, after the owners embarked on a journey to India, where they saw firsthand the work of suppliers, and forged a wealth of new relationships.
