Around the World in 80 Trades: Bullet Express Ltd

Bullet Express Ltd has been exporting for several years but has only recently taken the plunge and invested heavily in it. Now it exports from its Glasgow base to locations all over the world.

What does your company do?  

We distribute goods from Glasgow to all over the UK, Europe and worldwide

 

How long has the company been exporting?

We have dabbled for many years, but only looked seriously at it in the last year and have invested heavily in systems and staff.

 

What do you currently export, and where to?

We trunk nightly to Dublin and mainland Europe, however we do now export worldwide

 

What motivated you to start selling overseas, and how long did it take?
We have always been asked and eventually took the low hanging fruit. We now do daily air, road and sea exports and imports, it’s taken a year to get a good footfall.

 

What is the easiest part of exporting?

Mostly freight forwarding, so we just ensure we have good partners, today’s technology is good and that also helps greatly.

 

And the most challenging part?

Finding the good clients who will stick by you if you provide a good service, too many live only on price. We also have challenges with various currencies.

 

Have language barriers, currency changes, etiquette and culture ever caused you any difficulties? How did you overcome them?

Language hasn't been a problem as we have staff with language skills, and most people speak good English or e-mail in English . 

 

Did you get any support when you wanted to trade abroad? Who from, and was it helpful?

No we funded it all ourselves!

 

What advice would you give to someone just starting to explore overseas markets?

Do your homework on billing systems, and have deep pockets!

 

Any regrets?

None at all, all of our planning has taken care of that.

 

Where next? What markets are you looking into and where do you see the company in 5 years time?

We have moved heavily into storage and container de stuffing which complements our international exports and imports.This should add over £1.5-£2m to turnover and give us the full logistics solution for our customer base.
