Mara Seaweed launches in the USA

Scotland’s award-winning seaweed brand Mara Seaweed has arrived on the shores of the USA, taking a taste of Scotland’s coastline straight to the plate of the American consumer.

Mara’s seaweed products are making a splash in 300,000 homes as part of Blue Apron’s meal boxes, and into America’s discerning restaurants through Chefs’ Warehouse.

“Mara’s nutritious shake-on seaweed flakes are their latest discovery and we’re delighted to partner with them.”
 
Mara (meaning ‘sea’ in Gaelic) turns Scottish seaweed into an essential everyday seasoning, for on anything from eggs and fish to rice and salad. Mara Seaweed provides a rich source of minerals. It’s also the best natural source of iodine, required for normal function of the thyroid.
 
Not content with launching in a new continent, Mara are introducing a brand new product in a brand new format: Furikake single-serve sachets. An East-West flavour fusion of Dulse seaweed, toasted sesame seeds and chili flakes. Blue Apron customers will receive Mara Furikake in their recipe boxes from the end of June.


 
Chefs’ Warehouse is also stocking Mara Furikake, as well as Smoked Dulse flakes, Kombu powder and Shony, all in catering-sized tubs.

Through Chefs’ Warehouse Mara has already been given a pre-launch introduction to several of New York’s top chefs and restaurateurs, including Momofuku Nishi, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Eleven Madison and Nobu.
 
The chefs were impressed not only by Mara’s unusual flavours and health benefits, but also their many accolades, the most recent of which was the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Award for Best Accompaniment. As part of the Scotland Food & Drink delegation Mara are exhibiting at the Summer Fancy Foods Show, at the Javits Centre, New York.
