Digby goes big in Japan

Digby goes big in Japan

Sparking English wine brand Digby is celebrating going big in Japan after its first ever export drive saw it hit the Far East market last month.

Demand has been so high that its importer, Mottox Inc, needed to re-order a second pallet of Digby’s trophy-winning Vintage Reserve Brut only three weeks after the sales launch in Japan.

Mottox, one of Japan’s top wine companies, was founded in 1914 and has achieved listings for Digby so far at well-known restaurants and wine shops in Japan such as French fine dining Restaurant Yakoo in Osaka and Liquor Shop Ai in Tokyo.

The company was selected as the No. 1 importer in Japan in 2016 by Japanese magazine, Real Wine Guide, and thus is the ideal partner for Digby to build its brand in Japan. Digby achieved the partnership with Mottox through its export agents, The British Bottle Company.

Trevor Clough, Digby chief executive, said: “Japan is one of the top countries where we hoped to launch our export sales when we created our brand.

“It’s an innovative market with discerning consumers who appreciate English luxury.  Our subtle, elegant, yet piquant house style suits Japanese cuisine wonderfully.”
