Sports deals boost SiS

Science in Sport (SiS) has seen revenue for the first half of the year increase 24% to £6.48m after landing lucrative deals with Liverpool FC, Team Sky and USA Cycling.

The sports nutrition company that develops, manufactures and markets sports nutrition products for professional athletes and sports enthusiasts manufactures all of its products in Nelson, Lancashire.

The firm landed a lucrative deal a month ago to become Liverpool Football Club’s official sports nutrition partner for the 2016-17 season and has also landed similar deals with Team Sky and USA Cycling.

In addition, Olympians Sir Chris Hoy MBE, and Katarina Johnson Thomson are brand ambassadors for SiS and Mark Cavendish is an ‘elite sports consultant’ to the brand.

International and e-commerce sales, both from the SiS website and third-party online retailers were particularly strong during the period, reflecting the effect these partnerships are having on the brand.

Stephen Moon, SiS CEO, said: "International and online growth has been particularly strong and these channels will play a key role in the development of the business.

"Our Australian subsidiary was set up in December 2015 and our geographic footprint has extended into the USA and Germany in the second half of the year.

"Our strategic model continues to deliver, as consistent investment in the brand and development of our e-commerce operation results in strong top line growth.

"This is underpinned by close attention to gross margin and tight control of overheads. We remain very confident in our strategy and believe we will continue to deliver sector leading growth."
