SuperJam founder Fraser Doherty
Fraser Doherty, the entrepreneur behind Scottish jam brand SuperJam, has been named as the keynote speaker for the PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards next week.
Fraser, also known as ‘Jam Boy’, will share the story of how he learned his Grandmother's jam recipe at the age of 14 and went on to launch in thousands of stores around the world.
“It’s been an amazing adventure,” said Fraser, whose company currently provides jam to thousands of supermarkets and independent retailers across the globe.
Sweetened using only grape juice, his 100% fruit jam has gone from his “tiny kitchen” into the National Museum of Scotland as “an iconic Scottish brand” alongside Baxters soups, Irn-Bru and the Tunnock’s Tea Cake. Now, he is a global success, selling millions of jars worldwide.
Speaking about the event, he said: “'I'm excited to share the secrets to my exporting success at the PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards. SuperJam has had a great experience of launching our brand in markets such as South Korea.
“It wasn't easy to get going, but has been very rewarding and has certainly transformed our business. I hope that my story encourages the businesses in attendance to pursue more international opportunities for their brands."
His thoughts were echoed by BQ managing director Bryan Hoare, who added: “We’re delighted to have Fraser involved in the first ever PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards. He is a great example of how small businesses in the UK can make the most of the ever-growing demand for British products and services overseas.”
The inaugural PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards and International Trade Campaign 2016/17, celebrates excellence in international trade across the north of England.
Exporting and international trade remain central to the UK’s economic growth agenda and these awards are about recognising those emerging, wealth creating companies that are selling their products and services and expertise in scores of overseas markets.
Geoff Lippitt, business development director at PD Ports, said: “As owners and operators of Teesport, one of the top five UK ports and a major export hub, we are delighted to sponsor the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards 2017 alongside BQ.
“The awards reflect our firm commitment and investment in supporting further growth of exports and the associated value to drive economic prosperity across the North; exporting will undoubtedly be a major catalyst in delivering the Northern Powerhouse.
“We look forward to joining our many existing customers and other great exporting organisations at the ceremony to hear of continued export successes and to celebrate the strength and diversity of our Northern exporters.”
