Team BLEND with Andy Preston
On Friday 9 November a team of local business associates will be taking over the running of the charity restaurant, The Fork In The Road, based in Middlesbrough, as part of the #RestaurantTakeover.
The team, made up of Bev Goodall, Lou Murray, Emily Bentley, Nichola Reeder and Dawn Huggett, have all known each other for a number of years through networking with their respective businesses and employment. After being inspired by coverage of a previous challenge on the professional social media platform LinkedIn, a conversation commenced and a date agreed soon afterwards.
Team BLEND will be combining their various skills and knowledge on the evening to spend a shift behind the bar, front of house and helping out in the kitchen, supported by the staff at the restaurant. They will be encouraging their colleagues, contacts, friends and families to book a table for the night, enjoy great food and leave a generous tip to donate to the charity.
Nichola explained: "In our professional lives we've all seen the benefits of collaborating and maximising our different skill sets. It's fantastic we're now getting the chance to combine those talents to help a great cause in the local community and hopefully inspire other local businesses to give it a go too.”
Andy Preston, founder of the restaurant, added "The Fork In The Road is about inspiring individuals to work as part of a team and achieve their ambitions. It's fantastic to have the support of successful local business people. Taking the restaurant over for one night will raise vital funds for our precious work and it will also be a lot of fun for the business people who join in and get involved."
Set up as an alternative to the CEO Sleepout, where business leaders across the country get sponsored to spend a night under the stars, the #RestaurantTakeover has been created to offer local businesses the opportunity to run a restaurant for the night whilst raising money for a worthy cause.
The Linthorpe Road restaurant exists to create training and employment opportunities for the long-time unemployed including current and former prison inmates and those affected by homelessness. The restaurant was originally funded by 60 Teesside executives raising £45,000 at a sleepout on the Victorian Street at Preston Park Museum in Eaglescliffe, Stockton, in 2016.
