Out of the estimated three million horse riders in the UK, approximately 1 in every 350 suffer an injury each year, 18% of which are head injuries. The newly founded Rider Rehab Centre offers specialised recovery treatment to those injured in horse riding.
Their aim is to provide rehabilitation to all horse riders; from the happy hacker to those competing at international level in all disciplines.
Specialising in neurological injury and impairment, the Rider Rehab Centre hopes to aid riders requiring physiotherapy to get them back on track to achieve their equestrian goals.
Founder Kathryn Burns has spent the past 11 years working in specialist rehabilitation centres, treating a range of neurological impairments such as strokes, brain injuries, MS and spinal conditions. She commented: “It has been my dream to open my own clinic. The Rider Rehab Centre has allowed me to combine my hobby, passion, knowledge and skills”
“I want to use my skills to support the equestrian community. There are centres set up in the UK to support those involved in horse racing, but there is not currently any for the other equestrian disciplines or leisure riders. Here at the Rider Rehab Centre, we can provide the whole package of support that a rider may require, alongside having the understanding of the equestrian’s lifestyle and the physical demands it entails.”
The centre is unique in its ability to provide focused rehabilitation and physiotherapy input for riders, with the aim of helping them achieve their goals however big or small.
It's on-site facilities including; an indoor arena, outdoor arena, performance studio, physio treatment room, equine movement simulator, the Ebor Vale Riding for the Disabled group and off-site hydrotherapy pool. These facilities enable the centre to provide the much needed services under one roof, in a setting best suited to each rider.
