Boris Johnson hails 'regeneration' of London's business improvement districts

The number of jobs created in London with help from a business regeneration scheme has almost reached a million, according to a new report.

The capital's mayor Boris Johnson said 50 so-called business improvement districts (BIDs) have been set up over the past few years, contributing more than £25m to regenerate town centres and industrial sites.

More than 60,000 firms now operate in the BID districts, with the number of jobs almost doubling since 2012.

The mayor said: "BIDs have played a key part in the regeneration of town centres and industrial estates and they continue to boost growth and help drive London's economy."
