Upplement provides subscribers with hand-packed, customised supplement pouches for a stress-free, effective supplementation regime.
The company aims to make it easier than ever to get the vitamins and minerals needed to boost health and achieve fitness goals.
The service, which launches this week, delivers carefully curated pouches of supplements to every customer, taking personal requirements, age, gender and focus areas into consideration.
Ceunen, 28, said: “An estimated 38% of the population take vitamins and supplements to stay healthy, spending around £385m per year in the UK.
“Unfortunately, many take a scattergun approach to supplementation, picking up pills their bodies don’t need, or forgetting to stock up on supplements when they run out.
“For those serious about supplementation, we’ve created Upplement. This highly personalised service helps customers to select the supplements they need based on their age, gender and other personal requirements, for the most effective supplementation."
Speaking about what inspired him to launch the business, he added: "In 2014 I had surgery which would restrict my food intake for a long period of time.
"As I'm quite health conscious, I didn't want this restriction to have negative consequences to my body. One tool I wanted to use to minimise the impact was supplements.
"Although a healthy diet and active lifestyle are essential for your overall health, supplements can contribute to this as well, and will help to avoid potential nutritional deficiencies. But at that point I knew very little about supplementation of vitamins and minerals.
"So I dug deeper and discovered it's really not easy to get clear information about this. Unless you go to a dietician or a specialised professional (which will not only take a lot time, but are often extremely expensive), I found it very hard to understand what it was exactly that my body needed and which vitamins I should be taking. I just wanted an easy, quick and personalised option that would tell me what to do.
"I tried the whole Holland & Barrett experience. Buying several bottles of vitamins, opening them and putting each supplement one by one in my daily box. But that was so time consuming, and often I ran out of a specific bottle, and had to go to the shop again etc etc. Very inefficient and inconvenient. And I wasn't even sure I was taking the right things! And that's how Upplement came to life."
The Upplement process for customers is quite an easy one. By answering a few questions on registration, customers are matched with their ‘Essentials’ packs – these are the basic vitamins and minerals that everyone needs. Every customer will receive three Essentials in their monthly packs.
Customers can then add up to two ‘Boosters’, based on what they care most about improving. Whether customers are in search of healthy joints, beautiful skin, an extra dose of the Sunshine Vitamin or something to lower their cholesterol, the Upplement selection of vitamins and minerals have the Booster to do the job.
The daily vitamin pouches are then hand-packed and delivered to customers’ doorsteps within three to five days of the initial order.
"I think there's lots of potential for Upplement as a health brand. We're focussing on the UK now, but will hopefully be shipping to the rest of Europe early next year," said Ceunen.
"Besides that I'm hoping to expand the customisation aspect of the product. Make it super personal and specific, and even create actual personalised tablets, instead of a mix of tablets.
"I also see us expanding with personalised nutritional plans and webchat nutritionist services. I truly hope Upplement can make healthy nutrition and lifestyle a little bit more easy!" If you’ve enjoyed this article, click on the link below to sign up for more similar stories in your region.
