Chantelle Znideric explains why she quit her job as a senior graphic designer in order to launch her eponymous personal stylist business...
Tell us about your business, what does it do?
Chantelle Znideric is a highly acclaimed style consultancy, founded by award-winning personal stylist, Chantelle Znideric in 2007. Chantelle provides exceptional personal styling and shopping services for discerning individuals.
Her sole objective is to enhance their individuality and increase confidence by advising on key styles, wearable trends and suitable colours, ultimately achieving an exceptional outcome beyond her clients’ expectations.
What did you do before you started this business?
I was a senior graphic designer for many years creating corporate branding and identity, brochures and literature, and websites for commercial clients. Now I am creating stylish personal brands for individuals to suit their lifestyles!
What inspired you to start up?
I love shopping and fashion – it is my passion! The idea of taking people shopping and helping them to spend their money on the right clothes was a match made in heaven – it is my dream job and I still get heaps of reward and satisfaction from doing so.
How would you describe your business to a novice?
I help people enhance their image by advising on the correct clothing styles for their body shape, and colours to complement their natural colouring. This in turn improves their confidence and self-esteem, helps them achieve their life goals and saves huge amounts of time in the process.
Where do you get advice, support or help?
From my husband! My business coach also provides me with a wealth of expertise, advice and information.
Finance is one of the most common barriers to starting up. How did you access the finance you needed? For me, there were very little start-up costs.
I invested in some initial training and equipment but I used my time effectively to market my services as well as build valuable contacts within the industry.
What has been your biggest achievement so far?
There have been so many small yet personal, and quite significant achievements to date on many different levels. One that I enjoyed recently was being accepted on the SETSquared Entrepreneurship Programme and being recognised and awarded for an online/digital concept.
How do you differentiate your business from others?
I pride myself on being personable and empathetic with my clients. The services I provide are very personal – I want my clients to feel good about themselves and be their best versions whilst appreciating their individuality.
What’s it like to be your own boss?
I love being my own boss. I enjoy managing my own time and with two young children in tow it means I can be more involved with them. I feel I have a wonderful work life balance but it’s something I have worked hard to achieve.
Sometimes I may have to work unsociable hours but if it means being there for my children or having the privilege in going to their school plays then I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Where do you see your business in five years time?
I would like to explore moving the business offline and going digital using artificial intelligence and virtual reality technologies.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Follow your dreams and never give up. If an idea doesn’t work first time around then find another route. I’m always telling my children to try, try and try again!
Why did you enter the BQ Emerging Entrepreneur Awards?
I was nominated by a mutual contact. I was very surprised and flattered, and felt I should go for it! I’ve got nothing to lose.
What would it mean to you to win an award?
I feel the recognition of winning this award would allow me to position the business as a true innovator and thereby attract a new dimension and network. I would also hope to inspire other individuals of all ages and backgrounds who may be nervous about taking the plunge into a brave new world of setting up and starting a business. My story demonstrates that passion and grit combined can allow you to achieve your wildest dreams.
