The co-working space provider has launched a new tech hub in Berlin, marking the opening of its first site outside of the UK.
Techspace’s new Berlin hub is located on Lobeckstrasse, Kreuzberg, and holds space for 450 workstations across 3,000 sq m.
This is the seventh co-working space that Techspace has opened and its first overseas.
Companies who join the Berlin space will be part of Techspace’s European scale-up community of over 1,500 members, including Memrise, Hibob, and Goodlord.
Berlin has seen a surge of investment activity in tech this year, which as a result, has created a gap in office space availability for start-ups and scale-ups.
According to research from Savills published in March 2017, there is just 1.4 years of available office supply left in the German market, the lowest level in more than 15 years. In Berlin, the problem is even more severe, with just 0.6 years of available office space supply left.
Co-founded by serial entrepreneurs David Galsworthy (CEO) and Alex Rabarts (CTO/COO) in 2012, Techspace not only supports technology start-ups, but focuses specifically on larger, more established companies by helping them to bridge the ‘scale-up gap’ through offering sustainable, flexible space that adapts to their growth and needs.
Galsworthy said: “The ever-growing number of start-ups in Berlin has put the squeeze on resources and infrastructure. Office spaces are scarce and there are few new developments expected to open in the city until 2019.
“At a time when Berlin needs to be establishing its credibility as a tech hub that can support fast-growing scale-up businesses, it’s a problem that needs to be resolved quickly and we feel that it’s important we support the growth of the ecosystem with the launch of our largest space to date.”
Techspace adopts a user-centric approach to design, developing all of its spaces, products, and services with a member-first philosophy, and supports the growth of these companies beyond the office space it offers by facilitating beneficial connections via its passionate community team and online platform.
