Wilkin & Sons gift hamper
Essex firm Wilkin & Sons of Tiptree, which produces James Bond's favourite jam, has opened a pop-up store at London Southend Airport for the festive season.
The globally recognised and much-loved producer – which was established in 1885, has supplied the royal family since George V in 1911 and sells to more than 60 countries worldwide – will be selling its wide range of jams and preserves, gins, home fragrances and other products from a shop in the Departures Lounge.
London Southend Airport and Wilkin & Sons is a very appropriate pairing due to their James Bond connection. The airport had a starring role in the 1964 James Bond movie, Goldfinger with Sean Connery as 007 driving his Aston Martin DB5 into the airport and taking it to Switzerland in pursuit of Goldfinger via the Carvair service.
Meanwhile it is well known that Wilkin & Sons Little Scarlet is James Bond's favourite jam – he talks about it being an essential part of his daily breakfast routine in the 1957 book From Russia with Love.
Scott Goodfellow, sales and marketing director, Wilkin and Sons Ltd, said: “We are delighted to be opening a Pop Up Shop at London Southend Airport and hope that passengers will enjoy taking our local products on their travels.”
Glyn Jones, chief executive officer of Stobart Aviation that owns London Southend Airport added: “We are very pleased to welcome Wilkin & Sons of Tiptree to the airport this festive season and are sure they are going to prove to be hugely popular with passengers looking for great Christmas gifts.”
He added: “Following the opening of the Bourgee Bites – Bar – Luxe Lounge at the airport in May – which is another branch of the hugely popular restaurant based in Southend and Chelmsford – we are delighted to welcome another Essex business to the terminal.
"We strongly support embracing local retailers as part of our commercial offering, something which our research shows passengers want. They like a blend of the big, well-known brands as well as independents for that more unique airport experience, so we are very happy to be able to provide that for them.”
