CakeDrop founder Anna Ward
The London start-up, which connects independent bakeries with hungry London workers, has raised over £10,000 from its first crowdfunding campaign.
Entrepreneur Anna Ward is looking to expand her cake delivery start-up CakeDrop after raising £10,000 from a successful crowdfunding campaign on KickStarter.
The company aims to connect London’s office workers with the best cake the city has to offer, whilst providing independent bakeries with a whole new route to market.
Speaking to BQ, she said: “We are overjoyed to have exceeded our crowdfunding target within 29 days and so thankful to all those that backed our campaign.
“It has been the perfect start to 2018 and we look forward to an exciting year of growth ahead of us.
“So far we have acquired all our customers organically through recommendation and positive word of mouth.
“With the funds we have raised, we will undertake some paid marketing activity to raise our profile and help us reach the thousands more offices in need of better cake.
“We also have plans to enhance our service and expand operations with a new delivery trike.”
Speaking about why she chose crowdfunding as a means of raising finance for the business, she added: “Crowdfunding was a great way to raise the funds we need to grow in a way that also engaged our network and promoted the business.
“The campaign gave us the opportunity to spread the word about CakeDrop as well as showcase our incredible cakes by offering them as rewards to backers.
“My advice to anyone considering crowdfunding but that is worried about failure would be to just go for it.
“You'd be surprised at how many people want you to succeed and you'll never know until you put yourself out there.
“Just make sure you plan a detailed outreach strategy that covers the duration of your campaign.
“And be prepared for the shortest 30 days of your life!”
