The tech firm has developed an app which helps people with restricted diets find out more about food products at the touch of a button.
Foodmaestro, the leading tech company behind the award-winning app of the same name, has appointed seasoned Walmart Canada business leader Jim Thompson onto its board.
With over 20 years' high-level experience in the retail and food sectors and having recently retired as COO of Walmart China and previously Canada, Thompson will help lead the Foodmaestro brand as it enters an exciting period of growth and global deployment.
He spent four years as Walmart's regional vice president from 1997, where he was responsible for Walmart store operations across Western Canada and Ontario. He was then promoted to vice president and general merchandise manager before becoming senior vice president of merchandising in 2006.
When returning to an operational post, Thompson was announced senior vice president of operations before progressing to chief operations officer in 2010. During his time as COO, he led the company through its biggest year of expansion.
Thompson will now be joining London-based Foodmaestro’s advisory board to help shape the future roadmap and deployment of the platform on a global scale.
He said: “I’m always looking to contribute to the development and growth of retail organisations with real potential, that revolves around its customers. Foodmaestro's focus within the market, putting the user's health at its forefront, is a huge USP.
“I'm delighted to join the team at a pivotal time for Foodmaestro, and look forward to helping its international growth and eminence within the retail industry as a global market leader in data and technology serving the retail industry.”
CEO Jaed Khan added: “We are delighted to have Jim join our advisory board. With his background in leading international retail businesses he will provide valuable insight to help us develop the Foodmaestro business model as we expand into new regions this year.”
Foodmaestro was founded with a mission to help consumers answer one simple question, “Can I eat this?” The platform combines label information with clinical health and wellness data to derive accurate allergen and dietary details, making it quicker and easier for people with restricted diets to find food they can eat.
