TVPlayer snags industry veterans as customer numbers soar

The premium pay TV streaming service attracted 40,000 new customers in the last quarter as it continued to increase its market share.

TVPlayer added more than 40,000 net customers to its premium pay TV service in the last quarter, positioning the site as the fastest growing complete pay-TV platform in the UK.

The company now has almost two million monthly active users in the UK, with annualised revenues increasing over 600% year-on-year.

Due to TVPlayer’s in-house technology platform, the company can service millions of users at a fraction of the cost faced by new over-the-top (OTT) entrants and traditional pay TV companies.

Since being founded in 2014, TVPlayer has had over 11 million desktop users and over 4 million app downloads in the UK.

To further accelerate growth and strengthen its management team, TVPlayer has appointed ‘industry veterans’ Scott Kewley and Nick James as chief operating officer (COO) and chief technology officer (CTO) respectively. Existing COO, Rob Hodgkinson, will be moving into the chief financial officer (CFO) role.

Kewley was formerly director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media and has latterly been leading on a consumer-facing OTT platform in the UK. James was previously head of TV architecture and innovation at TalkTalk, with prior experience at Lovefilm and Sky. In their new remits, Kewley and James will be tasked with multiplying the TVPlayer premium subscriber base.
