Allen Rice, founder of Atom Brewing
Hull-based independent brewery Atom Brewing is investing in itself as part of a drive to triple its production levels during 2018.
The brewery, which was founded in 2014 by beer enthusiasts Allan Rice and Sarah Thackray, produces a range of thirty different beers from its 5,800 square foot facility in East Yorkshire.
Atom now supplies its range of craft beers to around 400 bars across the UK and secured its first supermarket listing with Asda last year.
As part of plans to grow the business, Allan and Sarah plan to increase annual production from 1 million units to 2.5 million units this year.
Part of the investment for expanding production has been in upgrading the firm’s health and safety systems.
Commenting on the investment Allan said: “We need to meet strict health and safety requirements around the introduction of new machinery and brewing techniques that will be used as we grow to expand our range of beers and increase levels of production.”
The brewers have partnered with Cleckheaton-based Howarths People and Safety Management, who will support on-site health and safety compliance including risk assessments, machinery maintenance checks and all-around safer working practices.
Gavin Howarth, managing director at Howarths People and Safety Management, added: “Food and drink manufacture requires strict levels of health and safety compliance that can be somewhat complex and time-consuming.
“Our job now is to work with the team at Atom and take this off their hands so they can concentrate solely on brewing great beer and achieving their ambitious growth plans.”
Established in 2003 by Chairman Andy Howarth, Howarths acts as an outsourced employment law and HR department for more than 400 SME businesses across Yorkshire.
