Leicester-based Geary’s Bakeries is set to construct a new multi-million pound bakery and create new jobs thanks to a £4.5m investment from NatWest.
The family-owned Leicester business, founded over a century ago, will use the funding package to construct and fit-out a new, larger factory facility.
One of the UK’s leading independent craft bakeries, it is currently owned by the fourth generation of the Geary family, husband-and-wife Jason and Lyn Geary.
As well as creating several jobs for the community, the new factory will also enable the company to expand its production line.
The business, which already supplies award-winning long-fermentation bread and rolls to a range of retailers, including supermarkets and sandwich manufacturers, is now planning to add to its range.
The funding package was created by NatWest, with help from the government’s Regional Growth Fund through the University of Derby.
The bakery has experienced a significant upturn in business since the appointment of Jason Geary as managing director a decade ago, with annual turnover reaching £20m in 2016.
Jason said: “The funding from NatWest will allow us to continue to grow our business, which has been a staple part of Leicester since 1906.
“Our bakery is passionate about producing high-quality long-fermentation baked goods at competitive prices, while maintaining our traditional craft methods and values.
“We are committed to the local community. We’re also grateful that the investment from NatWest will not only allow us to construct the new factory, but enable us to give back to Leicester in the form of job creation.”
Martin Arnold, senior relationship manager at NatWest, said: “NatWest is proud to support Geary’s Bakeries.
“A century and over 4,000 awards later, the company is a true example of a business built on sound family values and quality produce.
"There’s something very rewarding about helping a family business like this one get to the next level.
“We wish the Geary family continued success.”
