Tim Holman has been elected to Chair the automatic Monitoring & Targeting (aM&T) group ran by ESTA (the Energy Services and Technology Association).

Trainees take up placements with Newby Castleman

Langleys boosts medical law team
Langleys Solicitors has strengthened its medical law team with the appointment of Sarah Merrikin.
Sarah, a chartered legal executive, joins the team from Chattertons Solicitors and will specialise in clinical negligence.
Langleys has also promoted Layah Sampson from legal administrator to paralegal while Georgina Ravencroft has been promoted to legal administrator.
Carter Jonas appoints Mark Talbot as head of telecommunications
Carter Jonas, the national property consultancy, has expanded its Infrastructure offering appointing Mark Talbot to a new role as head of Telecommunications.
Talbot, who will be based centrally working out of the firm’s Birmingham office, joins from Arqiva where he spent over 20 years dealing with the strategic acquisition, integration, development and management of operational and corporate infrastructure assets; most recently holding the position of head of estates & property. Talbot has overseen the doubling of the Arqiva portfolio and the development and implementation of new technology in building and street-level installations.
Lodders recruits its first legal apprentice
Local law firm Lodders Solicitors has taken a new step in its wider training and professional development programme, with the appointment of Zoe Ireland as its first-ever legal apprentice.
The two-year Level 3 Paralegal Apprenticeship run by Coventry University is designed to provide an introduction to the law and legal practice, with key elements including Legal Research, Contract Law and Client Care.

Chesterfield-based Valve & Process Solutions has expanded its sales team with the appointment of Vanessa Birchall as sales office manager for the growing business.
Accounting and finance-qualified Vanessa joins VPS after almost two decades as a sales engineer in the industry. Prior to her most recent role she worked with VPS founder Steve Pearson at Pegler and Louden.
New face for association’s board
West Midland Reserve Forces & Cadets Association (WM RFCA) welcomed a new Board member at September’s quarterly Board Meeting. Saqib Bhatti has joined the Associations’ other volunteer Board members, in their role of shaping and directing the work of the Association in supporting and promoting the regional tri-service Reserves and Cadets.

HSBC appoints new relationship director in Greater Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire
HSBC UK Commercial Banking has announced the appointment of David Arthur as relationship director, Birmingham corporate covering Greater Birmingham, Coventry and Warwickshire.
As relationship director, David will focus on businesses with a turnover of between £10m and £350m. He will work with companies from a range of sectors, but with a particular focus on the automotive and manufacturing sectors.
LSH affirms commitment to young talent in Birmingham with graduate appointments
National commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton has strengthened its commitment to nurturing young talent by welcoming a new group of graduate surveyors in its Birmingham office.
Lucy Smith, a law graduate, and Megan Green, who has a degree in modern languages and European studies, are working in LSH’s property management department and will both study for a Master’s degree in Real Estate from University College of Estate Management (UCEM). Gulraj Singh Jheeta has joined the building consultancy team after graduating with a BSc (Hons) in building surveying, while Zoe Thompson, a real estate management graduate, has joined the valuation department.
Lauren Milner also joined LSH’s valuation department as a graduate surveyor from Bruton Knowles, where she completed the first two years of her training and is now being supported to complete her APC in November, while Keir Forsyth, who is studying property development at Portsmouth University, has joined on student placement.
Smith Cooper’s business recovery & insolvency director promoted to partner

Industrial focus as LSH appoints associate director
Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) has appointed an associate director for its Nottingham and Sheffield offices as the national property consultancy continues to expand its reach across the region.
Rob Haigh joins LSH from Harris Lamb, where he launched its property agency business for the East Midlands. His new role will see him working within the agency teams in Nottingham and Sheffield, focusing predominantly on industrial and strategic development land.

Ruth Bourton, who has more than 11 years’ commercial property law experience in both regional and national firms, joins the legal team at The Pensnett Estate from Pinsent Masons, where she worked in the investment and asset management team, advising investors and tenants on a variety of real estate transactions.
New head of compliance at law firm Lodders
Midlands law firm Lodders has appointed Paul Harrison to the new role of Head of Risk & Compliance.
Harrison joins from the Birmingham office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell, where he had been Conduct & Regulatory Assistant for over four years.
His experience combines management roles in private practice, with regulatory experience working as both a Case Worker and Technical Adviser for the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), and for The Law Society of England & Wales for 12 years.
