Kayleigh Hepburn, account manager from creative communications agency O PR, gives her top five tips for making your venue noticeable in the city’s crowded hospitality scene.
With new openings popping up throughout the city centre and old favourites often with a loyal customer base in tow, using both PR and social media to position your bar and restaurant as the place to be has never been more important.
Having worked with clients including Newcastle's city centre hotspot The Botanist to get the public on side, here are some tactics to try out.
1. That Instagramable moment
Whether it’s a two foot long pizza, a smoking cocktail or a piece of interior design genius, think ‘would I care enough to share this on social media?’. Every detail of our lives can be communicated to our peers with just the snap of a camera and click of a button, so give customers something to talk about and capitalise on the advantages of free and instant direct marketing.
2. Say it on social
Got a new seasonal cocktail menu we need to know about or launching an unbelievable offer up there with unlimited prosecco? Don’t just rely on people coming through the door for this to be revealed, use these announcements as temptations to lure customers in. Combine quality photography with the five Ws and a splash of personality and hit post.
3. Influence is key
Keep up to speed with the rise of the region’s blogger community and enlist their support in targeting your customer base. With a trusted influence and social media followings rivalling those of some celebrities, all it takes is one glowing review or Instagram snap of an expertly mixed cocktail to make your mark.
4. Be aware
There is pretty much an awareness day for everything, and if there’s not – why not create your own? From National Daiquiri Day to International Chocolate Day, get social and join the conversation to use these pointers to highlight your food and drink offering where relevant. Who could resist an ice cold strawberry daiquiri on a day especially dedicated to it?
5. Little reminders
Is the sun shining and your bar has a beer garden? Or is an event taking place in the city set to bring a flock of potential customers within your patch? Make the connection and associate yourself with anything current – all it takes is one Tweet to seize the opportunity!
