Sports Direct and Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has today increased his stake in Debenhams to 21%
This latest investment, which was announced on the London Stock Exchange this morning (22 Aug), sees Ashley increase his stake in the department store chain from 19% to 21.04%.
Ashley previously stated that he wanted to be a 'supportive stakeholder' in Debenhams however, following a speight of share increases over the past 12 months, rumours have been circulating of a potential takeover bid.
This comes just weeks after the billionaire snapped up 44 million shares in struggling retailer Game, equivalent to 25.75% of the share capital of the group.
Ashley has also recently invested in French Connection UK (FCUK) of which he bought a 27% stake earlier this year.
