Fresh off their success in the Den, Pouch co-founder Ben Corrigan gives us some insight into what it takes to get a disruptive start-up off the ground.
To start a disruptive business, you need to consider what problem the consumer has and how it can be solved. It helps to look at yourself as the consumer in this instance, what bugbears do you have? What would make your life easier?
Pouch was born after we realised it was a lot easier for a browser plugin to pop up and tell you what voucher codes are available for a specific site, instead of having to trawl the internet in the hopes of finding one.
This not only solves a problem for consumers, but online retailers as well, because traditional voucher code websites require shoppers to leave the site they’re on to find a relevant voucher code, and we all know online marketplaces don’t want that!
You need to find what is missing from a particular market. For instance, over the past 10 years, voucher code websites have thrived due to the credit crunch, but they have also been heavily criticised for distributing and promoting incorrect or inactive vouchers.
This will discourage the consumer from using a particular site again as it’s not regularly updated with new and active voucher codes.
This is where Pouch excels. The extension is available on Chrome, Safari and Firefox and is easy and free to download and use. Shoppers can enjoy discounts on clothing, beauty, parenting, education, home improvement, food and drink, sports and leisure, furniture and more.
Pouch has managed to find a sector that has been thriving but also lacking in its functionality, resulting in shoppers not bothering to find the vouchers themselves and spending more money than they have to.
It’s also handy for your business to have more than one benefit that most people will appreciate. Thanks to Pouch the two main selling points are that consumers save money, and they save time.
