Greeting every visitor to the office in her own unique way, Pixie is an ambitious overachiever who supervises the goings-on at ProFinda…
What does your company do?
ProFinda is a technology company that uses artificial intelligence to match people to projects, other colleagues and work, according to their skills and expertise.
And introduce us to your workplace pet… What’s their name, and what kind of pet are they?
Pixie is the Head of Quality at ProFinda. She’s an ambitious Pomeranian who keeps everyone in the office on top form. Pixie prioritises the customer experience and makes sure that she is the first face that anyone sees when they walk into the office. Wellness is another passion of hers, so she ensures that she takes every colleague on long walks to keep them healthy.
How did they become your workplace pet?
Pixie succeeded in an extensive interview process where her skills, attitude and competencies were vetted through a Q&A, tug of war and a game of fetch.
What’s it like having an animal around the place?
Having an animal in the office helps to keep the environment vibrant and energetic. She can often be found cuddling one of the team, or supervising their work (she is Head of Quality, after all!). Pixie works tirelessly to keep the team entertained and upbeat. She is also extremely loved by our visitors and the other companies who work in the same office.
What made you decide to bring pets into your workplace?
It was something that we thought would improve the working environment and help to make the office a bit more varied and different compared to other offices. ProFinda has a vibrant team culture, we work hard and have a close knit team. Pixie is a huge part of this, and helps to bond the team together in times of otherwise high stress.
Does it have an effect on stress, and on how the whole team works together?
Pixie is a focal point in the office, often running around and keeping everyone entertained. She’s also become something of an icebreaker when people visit the office, a common subject that everyone can talk about and relate to. Overall, she’s helped to bring the team together and has come up with a few funny moments!
Any unexpected benefits? Or, indeed, pitfalls?
Pixie is going through a barking phase at the moment, which can make you jump if you’re not expecting it. Overall though, she is very well behaved and used to the office environment.
Who’s responsible for walking, feeding, cleaning… any of the ‘less popular’ jobs?
Our Project Manager (and Pixie’s mum) Karyna Prokharava mostly cleans up and feeds Pixie. Although the rest of the team are happy to contribute walks and treats.
Ever find it a distraction?
Pixie is often in the office and everyone is used to her being there. In fact, sometimes when she isn’t in, it’s more distracting! She can sometimes jump up on desks, but not without permission. if anything, she gives people space to have downtime in-between difficult tasks. She does bark in the office sometimes, which is something she’ll grow out of as she gets older.
What would you tell other people who were reluctant to take in an office pet?
Having Pixie around has added to ProFinda’s fun office environment. Everyone enjoys having her around and she makes the day go quick with her entertaining antics. Far from being a distraction, if you bring a pet in from a young age, they quickly adapt to the working environment and will know when to be quiet and not get in the way. Pixie has had a great impact on the ProFinda team and it wouldn’t be the same without her.
