Flagship craft store to open in Durham

County Durham-based Crafter’s Companion, a craft supplies company, are set to open a retail outlet that will be the first of its kind in the UK.

The company plan to invest £500k in the store, which will offer themed shopping sections covering papercraft arts, sewing, home décor and haberdashery.

Craft enthusiasts will be given the opportunity to learn tips and tricks and socialise with a like-minded community, as the flagship store will focus on education, inspiration and enjoyment.

Alongside specialist craft stock, the store will also house a coffee shop, two dedicated demonstration areas and a central hub for workshops.

Founder and sales director, Sara Davies, describes the centre as a “destination outlet”.

“People can come and enjoy a day out, take a class, learn something about craft, visit the café and get involved with the demos,” she says.

“Along with engaging with avid crafters and craft groups from across the UK, we’re also hoping that it will attract people outside the crafting community to get involved in craft.”

The new 7,000 sq ft site, which will be located near the companies head office in Newton Aycliffe, also hopes to benefit the wider business community, becoming home to a ‘Retail Centre for Excellence’ intended to support retailers with training and consumer insight.
