Nicholson's Group supports young entrepreneurs

A North East transport business is supporting young entrepreneurs in the region after backing a university spin-out.

The Nicholson’s Group provided a wealth of information and assistance for Dan Robson, who launched his own horticultural business, Green Digit Ltd to supply herb and flower seeds in environmentally friendly packaging known as SeedCell.

Thanks to the advice and mentorship provided, Green Digit Ltd has blossomed into its own 2,000 sq ft manufacturing facility and offices in Gateshead, supplying to big names including Homebase, B&Q, Oxfam and London’s Science Museum.

Now, Billingham-based Nicholson’s Group are looking to support its next young talent.

Managing director David Nicholson, who started his own business aged 17, said: “We have always supported young people to achieve their potential, whether that’s with staff gaining qualifications or outside with young businesses who clearly have the potential to grow but could do with some help to set them on their way.”

The group are looking for a small manufacturing business which might benefit from the help of the transport networks and infrastructure on offer from Nicholson’s.

“The support we have had from Nicholson’s Transport has been fantastic,” says Dan.

“Breaking into retail is incredibly difficult, so knowing we did not need to worry about transport and storage when we were starting out was a relief and allowed me to concentrate on building networks and getting a foot in the door with the large retailers.”
