North East house builder Miller Homes has announced a number of new appointments in the region as it prepares to open a series of new developments.

Patrick Arkle, who has 26 years of experience in the industry, has been promoted to operations director, while Lee Richardson and Phillip Smith join the company’s team of on-site managers.

Eleven Arches, organisers of an open-air live action show night in Bishop Auckland, have appointed Simon Horsley as their first technical director.

Simon boasts 25 years experience in the theme park and entertainment industry, including a position at Alton Towers Resort where he was responsible for the technical management of special events such as Scarefest and the annual fireworks show.

Simon will work alongside the technical team to oversee the production which tells 2000 years of British history through the eyes of the North East.

Water management company, Biochema UK Ltd, has made several appointments as it targets national and global expansion.
As part of its growth strategy the company has appointed Gary Lumby MBE as its first non executive director.
Mr Lumby joins joint owners and founders, Dr Tim Robinson and Dave Ruddy, alongside compliance director, Dave Stratford.

Gosforth-based RMT Accountants & Business Advisors has added to its client services team by recruiting Michael McGee.

With more than 12 years of experience, Michael will be responsible for helping business owners within and outside of the North East.

Cramlington’s HTL Group has appointed a new board member, Mike Johnson, as group director of engineering.

The appointment is described as a “natural step” for Mike who previously worked as technical manager for the company.

Durham-based EMG solicitors have welcomed Richard Swinbank, who will be using his expertise to work on a range of conveyancing-related areas for clients.

This comes after the firm recently expanded their office space at Durham’s Rivergreen Centre to make room for their growing team.

The former Head of Property at Hewitts in County Durham has joined the commercial property team of Burnetts in Newcastle.

Helen Roberts joins the Newcastle law firm along with Paralegal Adrian Howey also from Hewitts. Her brief is to develop the firm’s base of Tyneside corporate clients, alongside Corporate Partner Vaughan Jones.

Tyneside Clinical psychologist and MummyPages expert Brenda McLackland has joined the expanding team at Little Town in a bid to develop the centre's groundbreaking work with babies, children and their parents in the region.

Little Town - which is becoming renowned for its alternative methods of child development and its centre in Newcastle – welcomes Ms McLackland as a partner of the business where she will act as an Early Years Consultant.

She has been added to the Little Town team to build on the success of her Happy Baby Shower classes throughout the North East and will host expert-led events with the centre.

Jill Dovey, a senior solicitor at FTSE 100 software business, Sage, and a specialist in IT and data protection law, has joined Muckle LLP.

Jill’s experience includes having in-depth knowledge of legal issues across a range of technology-focused areas after working for Sage in Newcastle, for seven years.

Robyn Peat, Managing Partner at land, property and business consultancy George F. White, has been appointed to the North East Council of CBI, one of the UK’s leading independent lobbying organisations that provides a voice for employers at a national and international level.

High street jeweller Goldsmiths has announced new appointments in four of its Newcastle and Gateshead stores this month.

Blackett Street’s Northern Goldsmiths and Reid & Sons, intu Eldon Square and intu Metrocentre have all welcomed new managers.

Lindsay Chapman has joined the into Metrocentre team, Jason West taken up the role of general manager at Reid & Sons after five years at Northern Goldsmiths, Sharon Devlin is now heading up the team at Northern Goldsmiths after 20 years with the Goldsmiths brand and Peter Britland has moved from the intu Metrocentre branch to the recently-refurbished intu Eldon Square showroom.

Hazle Royle joins Watson Burton from Burnetts Solicitors in Carlisle where she specialised in employment law.

Insurance brokers H&H Insurance Brokers have announced the appointment of Patrick Quigley as Account Executive based in their Durham office. His primary focus will be to provide existing and potential customers with professional support and advice. Patrick will also be responsible for developing new business initiatives driving forward effective sales and marketing.

Newcastle Racecourse has invested in a new lead for its catering team with the appointment of a Head of Food and Beverage.

With over 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, Tony Sagar joins the Gosforth Park team in the newly created role where he will have responsibility for a team of 15, rising to 500 during Ladies Day – one of Newcastle Racecourse’s most popular racedays.

Scotland-based     International law firm Pinsent Masons has appointed former Secretary of State for International Development Douglas Alexander as a strategic adviser to the firm.

Mr Alexander, who was until 2015 a Member of the UK Parliament, served in both the Tony Blair and Gordon Brown Cabinets.

Mr Alexander will work with the senior leadership team at Pinsent Masons to help inform and support debate among the firm's clients on doing business responsibly.

Grontmij UK, a nationwide engineering consultancy with offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, has added to its senior team with the appointment of a new UK managing director.

Max Joy OBE joined Grontmij UK on 1 March, following the company’s acquisition by European architecture and engineering firm, Sweco, in October.

Bilfinger GVA, one of Scotland’s leading commercial property advisors, has announced a new addition to its Glasgow office with Paul Broad joining as Director.

Broad joins the organisation’s Business Space Team having previously worked at DTZCushman & Wakefield for 14 years, most recently leading their Glasgow Business Space Team

Scottish-based business angel syndicate, Archangels, has appointed Sarah Hardy as its Chief Investment Officer.

Sarah joins Chief Operating Officer, David Ovens, and Investment Director, Niki McKenzie, to complete Archangels’ executive team line-up.  She will be responsible for overseeing Scotland’s largest business angel syndicate’s investment strategy and will have specific responsibility for liaison with a number of Archangels’ investee companies.

Aberdeen Sports Village has appointed Duncan Sinclair as its chief executive to further modernise business strategy and achieve key objectives at the facility, benefiting the city and the north east in a number of ways.

Mr Sinclair, 50, who has over 30 years experience in the sport, health and fitness sector, has held a number of key senior management roles in his career bringing experience of working in high profile positions across Scotland. He will utilise his considerable experience to ensure the premier sport and exercise facility continues to provide world class sporting opportunities to all of its customers.

Solihull-based UK Power Reserve (UKPR) have appointed Nick Horler, who has worked in the energy industry for 31 years, as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board.

Nick’s credentials at board and chair level include roles on the Boards of the Royal Mail, the Go-Ahead Group and Thames Water in April 2014.

He also acts as Chair for Meter Provida Ltd, Adler and Allen Ltd and Alderney Renewable Energy Ltd.

Students throughout Coventry and Warwickshire will receive independent advice and support to provide inspiration about their future careers as part of a national initiative to improve skills.

Dave Lennox has been appointed the area’s first Enterprise Coordinator after the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) received funding from the Careers & Enterprise Company which has been launched by the Department for Education.

The nationwide scheme is part of the government’s long-term plan to promote enterprise in schools and colleges, and will see Dave work with 20 schools and colleges in the area.

Birmingham-Based KPMG has boosted its Defined Contribution (DC) consulting practice with the appointment of eight full-time DC specialists, including Emma Skedgel.

The firm has brought in a range of senior management experts across the DC pensions and investment consulting teams, and Emma joins as senior manager at the firm’s One Snowhill office.

Solihull-based accountancy and business advisers Jerroms has appointed Jeremy Cope as new director at its Bromsgrove office.

Jeremy Cope joins Jerroms Priddey from a Birmingham – based accountancy firm, where he was a partner and head of the audit department.

Jerroms Priddey is part of Jerroms, which now has more than 100 members of staff across three offices in Bromsgrove, Birmingham and its Solihull headquarters.

Midlands law firm Wright Hassall has expanded its public sector commercial offering with the appointment of Suzannah Lucas as procurement solicitor.

She will play a key role expanding Wright Hassall’s procurement offering, advising blue-chip corporate clients, charities and not-for-profit organisations, the public sector and housing associations on all aspects of procurement law including The Public Contract Regulations 2015, what Brexit could mean in relation to procurement processes and all aspects of major outsourcing projects.

Telematics  organisation The Floow has appointed Ian Peters, who has 30 years of experience, as an independent non-executive director.

The latest announcement follows a string of recent business developments for the company, which last year built on its relationship with Direct Line in the UK, and launched telematics-based products with a number of blue chip clients in Canada, Ireland and the US.

Commercial law firm Gateley Plc has welcomed its first real estate partner, Phil Gregory, to the Leeds team.

In his new role with Gateley Plc, Phil will be tasked with building the firm’s Real Estate offer in the Yorkshire market with a focus on all aspects of commercial property.

The firm has also announced three other key appointments in corporate, residential development and dispute resolution to strengthen existing teams.

Building on this and expanding the firm’s specialist international corporate offering to the Leeds market, Sandip Khroud joins Gateley Plc from Irwin Mitchell as senior associate.

Keelie Evans joins the firm’s Residential Development Unit as an associate.

In addition to Keelie, Peter Barr has been appointed to the commercial dispute resolution team (CDR) as an associate.

Leeds headquartered AMT Group has appointed David Edgington as the national fleet manager for its contract hire and leasing division.

In his new role at AMT, David will be responsible for building a customer focussed sales force and growing the division’s contract hire and leasing business, particularly within the large SME and small corporate markets.

Karl Hodson, a former banker and investment manager with business finance provider Enterprise Ventures, has joined BTG Corporate Solutions, a division of Begbies Traynor, as a director.

Karl will have a national role and will be predominantly based in the quoted group's growing Sheffield office as an adviser to clients seeking business funding, an area where there has been a great deal of market change since the 2008 financial crisis.

Karl’s previous roles include commercial manager for HSBC, investment director for South Yorkshire Investment Fund, and most recently six years as investment manager for Enterprise Ventures, primarily working on the Finance Yorkshire fund.

Holmfirth estate agency Applegate Properties has recruited a new office manager to help support the company’s rapid growth after a busy year in 2015.


Lisa Blackburn has joined the Applegate Properties team as office manager, the new role will involve overseeing all office responsibilities, supporting existing staff in their roles and supporting Managing Director Amy Wray with growth and development.

LEADING law firm LCF Law has expanded its corporate division with the appointment of Associate Cathy Cook.

Cathy, who has over 20 years legal experience with a strong emphasis on retail, lives in Leeds and will based at the firm's Sovereign Street office in central Leeds.

Cathy previously worked for International law firm Addleshaw Goddard and was the head of company and commercial law at regional firm Jordans, as well as working in-house at Leeds based Callcredit.

Tracey Bromley joins from Heartwood Wealth Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of Handelsbanken, where she was client director for South and West Yorkshire.

National property consultant Carter Jonas has appointed a marketing co-ordinator and introduced the new role of new homes co-ordinator to its residential team based in Harrogate. Katie Weldon has been promoted to the role of new homes co-ordinator.

In her role as new homes co-ordinator Katie will support new homes manager Anne Haggas across an extensive portfolio of projects across Yorkshire including The Old Police Station in Harrogate and the Side Beck Grange development in Addingham for Mulgrave Properties.

Sam King joins Carter Jonas as the new marketing co-ordinator. 

Sam’s role will involve working closely with the residential team to help promote its properties across the region.

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has appointed experienced marketer Derek Carpenter as its branch ambassador for South Yorkshire.

He joins a newly-launched ambassador network, which consists of high-profile business leaders who represent and promote the IoD in their area and grow the region’s voice on national policy matters.

Derek, who is based in Barnsley, has developed component cleaning brands within the UK and European markets, including Enviro-Tech Europe and Baron Blakeslee.
