Savage plans for growth

The entrepreneur behind Flame Heating Spares, John Savage, is eyeing further growth this year with the opening of five new outlets across the region.

When BQ's Brian Nicholls interviewed John Savage last year, he heard the story of a one-man-band who quit his job mid-recession to go it alone.

Four years on, he was in charge of a £1.4m turnover business employing 11 people across three sites in the North East.

Now in its fifth year, the company which has recently moved into a new head office in Gateshead, is looking to open a further five branches across the North East, doubling its headcount.

He told BQ: “Last year we enjoyed a fantastic year in business with our move to a new head office in Gateshead, which also acts as our lead branch, as well as our launch in Sunderland.

“This positivity has continued with the opening of our Stockton outlet with even more expansion planned over the course of 2016.

“We now employ more than 20 staff, but I expect this figure to double by the end of the year, as my ambition is to open another five branches across the region.”

The company supplies both trade and retail customers with replacement parts for all domestic and commercial boilers, heaters, catering appliances and warm air units and is anticipating another bumper year as demand for its products continues to grow.

Savage added: “There is plenty of optimism in the industry as a whole, despite a relatively warm winter period, which may have had an impact on some tradespeople.

“It is this optimism in the sector and continued high demand amongst our customers that gives me the confidence to invest in our infrastructure and workforce, which will open up further markets in the region.”
