Rivers Capital welcomes new board directors

Rivers Capital Partners have welcomed former Goldman Sachs trader, Dr Chris Cathey, as a new regional capital fund manager.

After a successful 15 year career working in London, New York and Frankfurt as an equity trader for Goldman Sachs, and as a Proprietary trader with the Merill Lynch Strategic Investments Group, Dr Cathey is now returning to his local roots of Newcastle.

Chris said of his new role, “The North East is a hotspot for entrepreneurship and enterprise. 

"I’m looking forward to working alongside the team to support the growth and innovation of more regional businesses."

Chris joins the board of Directors at Rivers alongside second new recruit Malcolm Holloway.

 A Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ experience, Malcolm has held several key roles over the course of his career including Director of technology services in Bentley Jennison, Regional Director at Tenon Group PLC and prior to its acquisition, Equity Partner in Jennings Johnson.

Malcolm said, “Rivers have both investment expertise and entrepreneurial backgrounds, as business founders they know what it’s like to run a business.

“I’m looking forward to working with Rivers to help more regional businesses achieve their aspirations.”

Managers of the £9.5m North East Angel Fund and the £6.5m North East Microloan Fund from the Finance for Business North East programme, Rivers has supported the growth and innovation of products and services in SME’s across the region since 2010.
