Seaham-based cost management specialist has strengthened its management team with the appointment of an experienced recruitment specialist. 

Victoria Walton has joined Great Annual Savings Group (GAS) as head of resource and talent after spending almost 20 years working in the recruitment industry.

In her new role Victoria will be responsible for sourcing high-quality staff for GAS. She will also support the HR function in the delivery of staff training and development programmes.

NorthEdge Capital, a private equity house, has hired Ben Wildsmith as Portfolio Director to manage the firm’s existing portfolio and to help deliver new deals across the North of England.

Rapidly growing Northumberland biomass energy specialist re:heat has made a key appointment to lead the servicing arm of its business. 

Terry Harvey is the firm’s new biomass engineer, having previously worked closely with re:heat while running his own heating business from Morpeth.

Terry’s appointment is part of the Alnwick-based company’s overall expansion plans and recruitment drive over the next 12 months – a move that will see additional biomass heating experts join the existing team of six.

A NORTH East hospital has demonstrated its commitment to working more closely with local doctors’ surgeries by creating a new role of GP liaison manager.

Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital has appointed Beth Brook to the new position with the aim of building links with more GP practices in the region and increasing the number of referrals from GPs to the hospital.

Her role will focus on raising awareness among local GPs of the services Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospital offers and the referral process so that doctors can inform their patients of the options available to them.

Fast-growing law firm Newtons Solicitors has strengthened its North East presence with the appointment of two commercial solicitors.

Senior employment law solicitor, Paul Hargreaves, joins Newtons Solicitors’ Darlington office and employment and company commercial solicitor, Oliver Hebdon, joins in Stokesley. Both were previously at the Newcastle office of BHP Law.

PD Ports has strengthened its position to enter the next phase of its investment plans with the announcement of two new appointments.

Former shipping agent Keith Russell and journalist Lucy Richardson have joined the major North-East employer based at its headquarters in Middlesbrough. 

As Business Development Manager, Keith brings to the role a wealth of commercial experience and an in-depth knowledge of operations on the River Tees and their growth potential.

Lucy has been appointed Marketing & Communications Executive to support the wider PR and Marketing team in expanding media coverage and help raise the profile of PD Ports within its key markets as well as amongst stakeholders and customers.

Solicitor Phil Masters has joined BHP Law as it expands its contract, business transaction and dispute resolution services across the North East.

Premier Tech Aqua, a water and wastewater treatment solutions company based in Peterlee, has announced the recent appointment of a new Regional Sales Manager – Zulkarnan Qureshi – to help drive the rapidly growing business.

As Regional Sales Manager, he will be responsible for building key relationships in the company’s target markets whilst also playing a major role in effectively building and communicating the PTA name within the UK.

Newcastle based law firm Hay & Kilner has appointed two lawyers as the firm continues to grow.

The leading full service law firm has appointed Elizabeth Gibbison and Stephanie Layton to their private capital and family law teams respectively.

Elizabeth advises clients on a wide range of legal matters including Wills, trusts, probate, powers of attorney, inheritance tax and estate planning.

Stephanie works alongside highly regarded family law specialist Nicola Matthews and assists clients with divorce, non-married partners separating, financial and children issues and cases involving the Court of Protection.

North East firm BHP Law has appointed Leigh Ferguson as its newest lawyer.

Ms Ferguson spent the last 14 years working with a city firm in Newcastle and will now be based at BHP’s Darlington office, but will also work out of Durham.

With a background in personal injury, Leigh was previously a team leader dealing with contested occupational disease claims before transferring to commercial litigation and fraud as a commercial dispute resolution specialist and debt recovery manager.

Bespoke software development consultancy Scott Logic has appointed two senior developers to its growing team.

Djamel Hassaine and Simon Martin both have experience in data analytics and building financial trading systems, areas in which Scott Logic specialises. The pair will be based at the firm’s Newcastle office at St James’ Gate.

North East fork lift truck specialist Permatt has strengthened its sales operation with a senior appointment.

Stuart Dawson joins the Killingworth based business as sales manager during a period of steady growth.

National law firm Bond Dickinson has promoted Ian Atkinson to Construction Partner and Richard Collins to Dispute Resolution Partner in its Newcastle office bringing the number of partners in Newcastle to 44. This is two of four partner promotions.

A NORTH East IT and telecoms provider, CCS,  announced ambitious plans for growth following the recruitment of a new UK sales manager.

Kevin Greener has recently joined Sunderland-based CCS, which works with a variety of top national and regional brands, including Umbro, Russell Hobbs, Sunderland AFC and Hays Travel.

With more than 27 years’ sales experience in the telecoms industry Kevin aims to increase CCS’ customer base by building on the company’s reputation for excellent client service.

BGF (Business Growth Fund) has appointed Alice Avis MBE, formerly Chief Executive and Chair of The Sanctuary Spa, to its board as a Non-Executive Director.

Alice will bring significant international marketing, e-commerce and executive experience to BGF.


Alice will replace Non-Executive Director John Burgess, who stepped down after nearly five years on the Board.

Newcastle-based creative digital agency Keltie Cochrane has invested in its digital offering with two appointments to support further business growth.

Dan Gadd, 25, from Newcastle upon Tyne joins the agency as lead developer with over five years experience in digital development and technical engineering, having held previous roles at North East agencies including AllMedia and The Roundhouse. 

 Andy Bell, 27, also from Newcastle upon Tyne, is taking on the role of senior web and user interface designer. Andy joins the team with over five years experience in creative design and development, having worked at multiple London offices including AndSoMe and the Sabre Travel Network, as well as local agencies Fusebox, The Roundhouse and AllMedia.

Speciality chemicals companyDevine Chemicals has expanded with the appointment of Will Norris as a new area sales manager.

Will has vast expertise in the plastics sector and he will be responsible for expanding the Devine Chemicals’ presence in this sector. His role will include selling and promoting Devine Chemicals’ products to current and existing customers, alongside developing and maintaining business partner relationships.

Finley Structures is investing in the future with the appointment of two new graduates.

The steel firm has appointed Natalie Chewter as assistant quantity surveyor, and Tom Radcliffe as a graduate structural engineer.

Natalie, 22, from Spennymoor, graduated from Northumbria University with a degree in Geography before going on to take a two-year distance learning Masters in quantity surveying while working with Finley Structures.

Tom is a former Longfield School student from Darlington and graduated from Teesside University in 2014 with a degree in civil engineering, after studying A-level Maths, Physics and Biology at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College in Darlington.

North Durham accountancy firm, Valued Accountancy has appointed Sharon Main as Senior Accounts Manager.

Sharon joins the Consett-based team from CAV Aerospace where she worked as an assistant finance accountant for seven years, taking the company’s total number of employees to 14.

She will be responsible for overseeing and managing client accounts, helping them with VAT returns, preparing year end accounts and corporation tax returns and is excited to be joining the company at a key stage of its growth.

A leading North East care and leisure organisation has strengthened its team with the appointment of one of the region’s most experienced construction industry professionals.

Newcastle-based Malhotra Group plc, which owns some of Tyneside’s most popular hotels, bars and restaurants, along with a portfolio of residential care homes, has recruited Ian Tubman to the position of project director.

Ian has worked in the construction industry for more than 25 years, serving his time as a joiner and building surveyor before going on to be senior project manager on large and complex capital projects and programmes for both North Tyneside Council and Durham University.

Bond Dickinson has recently made a number of new appointments, including Robert Phillips and Stacey Hall. Robert was Head of Corporate at Muckle LLP and has been named Dealmakers Corporate Lawyer of the Year three times.

Stacey Hall has also been appointed as an Associate, also joining from Muckle LLP where she worked with Quantum Pharma plc and regional business names such as O'Brien's Waste Management and Seaward Electronic.

The owners of Whitworth Hall Country Hotel and Deer Park near Durham have appointed Christopher Ashby as general manager. 

He brings with him a wealth of four star hotel experience including, most recently, as general manager at one of Lancashire's premier wedding and conference venues, the historic Bartle Hall.

FW Capital is pleased to welcome experienced commercial relationship manager Allison Routledge to their North East team.

Allison has joined the Billingham office as an Investment Executive where she will be working with Nicky Atkinson to provide short term finance for North East businesses through the £10 million Tees Valley Catalyst Fund.

Techconsult UK based at the Wilton Centre near Redcar, has appointed Gary Lumby MBE managing director of Focus on Success Ltd to help develop and implement the company’s growth strategy and to capitalise on new market opportunities. 

Mr Lumby is well known in the North East business community and holds a number of non-executive director roles in several companies, as well as providing consultancy services to a number of others.

CHAP Group has strengthened its senior team with the appointment of a new finance director and land manager.

Shona Gee joins as finance director, moving from the energy sector and bringing 25 years of experience in both the private and public sector. Her previous role was as group financial controller of a subsea company.

Michael Thomson is the new land manager for the CHAP Homes division, having served in the same position with a national house builder in the north and north-east of Scotland. As a chartered surveyor, his background also includes private and public sector roles in property consultancy and planning.

Andrew Hemphill, Port Director with Peel Ports - Clydeport has been appointed as Chairman of Cruise Scotland at the marketing association's Annual General Meeting in Glasgow having previously served as Vice Chairman for the past two years.

Hemphill replaces Victor Sandison of the Port of Lerwick in Shetland who served in the role over the last three years.

The Royal Bank of Scotland has announced the appointment of Liam Kane as Regional Director of Commercial Banking for the North and Scotland.

Liam Kane will head up the Commercial Banking team that is responsible for supporting SME customers across the North West, Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North East and Scotland. He has ten local Directors of Commercial Banking reporting into him along with their respective relationship management and specialist sector teams.

BGF (Business Growth Fund) continues to grow its investment team with the appointment of Ben Barker, who will provide support to BGF’s portfolio of companies based in Scotland.

Ben joins a team of 10 investors covering Scotland and will initially focus on the Central Belt. Ben also has responsibilities in North of England, and will travel between BGF’s offices in Manchester and Edinburgh.

Aberdeen-based accountancy firm Hall Morrice LLP has strengthened its senior management team with the creation of a brand new post to grow its client base across the north east.

Mike Innes, who has worked in the banking sector for three decades, has been appointed to the newly created position of business development director.

He will be working with partners and directors to expand the independent firm’s portfolio, which includes clients from energy and construction to retail and third sector.

Accountancy and advisory firm BDO LLP has elected Paul Eagland as its new managing partner following a vote of all of its partners.

Paul will succeed the current Managing Partner, Simon Michaels, and will take office on 1 October 2016 when Simon has completed his maximum of two four-year terms as Managing Partner.

Business organisation Aberdeen Inspired has appointed a new chairman to lead its board of directors. 

City businessman Allan Henderson takes up the role and succeeds Richard Noble who held the position for the last four years.

A passionate Aberdonian, Allan is managing director of The Workshop UK Ltd, the city’s largest onshore contract catering business. He also co-owns serval other hospitality businesses including McGinty’s, The Stag and Ferryhill House Hotel.  

Allan has been on the Aberdeen Inspired board since its inception and has successfully led its Attractive City theme which will this year include a targeted clean-up campaign of Union Street among other tailored city centre projects.

Aberdeen-based Seacroft Marine Consultants has appointed a marine manager as the company expands its capabilities in more technically challenging offshore marine projects.

Experienced specialist Paul Young has joined a team of 14 staff and 50 consultants as the firm targets growth opportunities on the back of recent contract wins.

Katherine has joined the shopping centre from a retailer within the complex and brings with her more than 13 years of experience encompassing managerial responsibilities, visual merchandising and customer service.

She will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with retailers and businesses, exploring new income opportunities, monitoring traders’ sales performance and highlighting advertising and promotional opportunities available at Bon Accord & St Nicholas.

Scottish airline Loganair has announced the appointment of Jonathan Hinkles as its new managing director.

A former chief operating officer at Loganair, Hinkles returns to the company after four years at Virgin Atlantic where he holds a senior role as vice president of operations and crewing.

Loganair, Scotland’s airline, today (May 12) announced the appointment of Jonathan Hinkles as its new managing director.

Hinkles’ entire 23-year career has been within the airline industry and he has extensive experience in all aspects of airline management. He will take up his post in late June.

Peter McGettrick has been promoted to divisional director of Capita Property and Infrastructure in Scotland and the North to help maintain its high performance and continued expansion.

From the Capita Property & Infrastructure’s Glasgow office, Peter will be leading a team of over 230 professional staff providing locally based services in project management, cost management, building surveying, health and safety and construction design and management services across Scotland, the Midlands and the North of England.

Derek Flyn joins as a crafting law consultant, where he will be assisting the crafting law practitioners at Inksters and providing them with specialist advice.


Angus Mackay joins as a legal consultant, with a specialist interest in Community Empowerment, Land Reform and Renewable Energy.

In this newly-created role Gayle is responsible for the company’s people and technology strategy.

Jane Cannon has been appointed first Head of Marketing at Innis & Gunn.

In the new Head of Marketing role Cannon will develop Innis & Gunn’s global brand strategy and lead its execution across existing and developing markets.

This will include overseeing all planning, development and implementation of the brewer’s marketing strategies, communications and public relations activities.

Dr Graham Kerr has joined CENSIS as its Technical Director, while Leo Meng has been recruited as an Embedded Systems Engineer.

Leading law firm Wright Hassall has appointed Gemma Carson as it new head of commercial litigation.

Gemma has risen through the ranks at the Leamington-based solicitors having joined Wright Hassall straight from university. She takes over from Sarah Perry, who was appointed Managing Partner earlier this year.

Audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has appointed Mark Taylor as Regional Managing Partner for the Central Region.

In addition to overseeing the work of all RSM’s seven offices in the Central Region including Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Bury St Edmunds, Chelmsford and Telford, Mark will also be Office Managing Partner for the firm’s office in Birmingham.

The Royal Bank of Scotland has announced the appointment of Chris Price as Regional Director of Commercial Banking for Midlands, Wales and South West.

Chris Price will head up the Commercial Banking team that is responsible for supporting SME customers across the Midlands, Wales and South West. He has seven local Directors of Commercial Banking reporting into him along with their respective relationship management and sector teams.

David Marsden, previously Head of Property Litigation at the Cheltenham office of Charles Russell LLP, has joined Trowers & Hamlins as Partner in the Property Litigation Team in Birmingham.

National property consultancy firm, Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), has strengthened two significant areas of the business in Scotland by hiring new staff and making key promotions.

David Main has joined LSH’s Building Consultancy team in Glasgow as a graduate Building Surveyor, having previously worked at Sweett Group. His recruitment follows the recent appointment of Gavin McClymont as Associate Director, following his move from Graham & Sibbald in Kilmarnock.

A further development within LSH’s Building Consultancy team see’s Fraser Ross promoted to Associate Director having joined the firm from Mackinnon & Co in April 2015.

Neil Johnston has joined the commercial arm of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh as Financial Controller of the Royal College of Suergeons of Edinburgh Commercial Enterprises, joining from a similar role with Westernwood Hotel.

Johnston’s role will see him build on the record revenues recently announced by Surgeons’ Hall, which achieved turnover of £4.25 million in its latest financial year, up 20% on the previous period.

Solicitor and estate agent Lindsays has continued with tis growth plans by appointing a new chairman.

Peter Tweedie, corporate partner who joined the firm with the Shield & Kyd merger four years ago, takes over from David Reith.

In his role as Chairman, Peter will be working with the current management team, including Alasdair Cummings, Managing Partner and Ian Beattie, Chief Operating Officer, as well as Board members Callum Kennedy (Partner and Head of Private Client), and Derek Duncan (Partner in Residential Property) who is based in Dundee and joined the firm when it merged with RSB Macdonald in July 2015.
