Charles Clinkard moves into new head office

Family retailer Charles Clinkard has officially opened its new £3m head office and warehouse at Cannon Park, Middlesbrough.

Retired visual display manager, Bryan Wilkinson and 14-year-old Lottie Clinkard for the 4th generation of the family, officially opened the building.

Wilkinson, who worked for the retailer for 30 years, named the previous head office Eveline House at Preston Farm. This latest honour recognises Bryan’s long service with the company.

With enough space to store up to 250,000 pairs of high quality shoes, the warehouse, next to the Royal Mail Sorting Office at Cannon Park, is providing the company with the extra capacity needed to meet its increasing online sales.

Managing director Charles Clinkard is confident it’s the start of more great things to come for one of the North East’s longest established family-owned companies.

He said: “We’re delighted to officially open our new head office and warehouse. It’s an excellent dedicated facility and one which will enable us to continue to grow the business and our product offering.

“We’ve invested in extra warehouse capacity which means we’ll be in the ideal place to satisfy the demand for our products, providing a wide range of choice to our discerning customers.”

The official opening of the new head office is the latest step in the company’s 92 year history. It was Charles’ grandparents who started the business in 1924.

The family-owned footwear retailer now has 33 stores across the country and employs over 552 people nationwide.

BQ’s Brian Nicholls caught up with Charles back in 2014 to hear the story behind the company.
