North East travel company scoops national award

The managing director of Newcastle-based travel business Northern Secrets has received a prestigious accolade at the 2016 Group Travel Awards.

Alex Jacobs was the recipient of an award recognising “The Development of Incoming Group Visitors to the UK”, for the work that Alex and his company Northern Secrets undertakes in promoting the UK overseas and bringing over 7000 people to the region every year.

Peter Stonham, managing editor of Group Travel Organiser (GTO) Magazine, said: “Alex is a very deserving candidate for this award, having worked really hard, and very enthusiastically, to unlock more opportunities for overseas groups to enjoy visits to Britain.

He has in particular harnessed his knowledge and passion for the North East, using his connections and understanding of the German market to be a fantastic ambassador for the area!”

Northern Secrets has been operating since 2008 and provides personalised and bespoke tours around Scotland, Wales, Yorkshire and North East England.

The Group Travel Awards are decided by the readers of GTO magazine and have earned a reputation as the most distinguished and respected event serving the group travel market.

Alex Jacobs, managing director said: “I am delighted to have received this award and gained national recognition for what our company offers.

“Northern England has so much to offer and as a company, we are committed to providing inspiring, tailor-made itineraries that help the visitor experience a place, not just go to a location.
